Grand Ole Opry

Has anyone ever been to the Grand Ole Opry? I am planning a trip there and was wondering what there is to do there. Is there a tour we could take of the Opry itself? I really don't want to see a live show there, but take a tour. Do you know if you need reservations? Is there anything else that is worthwhile to do in Nashville for someone that has never been there? I have gone several times to Nashville but never had interest in the Grand Ole Opry. One of my friends is dying to go there. He cannot walk for very long so I did a little research and found a place that rents scooters, but I am just curious if anyone has ever gone there and what to expect.
