A New Procedure for Sinusitis email this discussion to a friend?

I have been having problems with my sinuses for months now. A friend who works for an ENT suggested I check out this procedure called balloon sinuplasty. I was wondering if anyone has had this done or knows anyone who has. I am nervous to try something so new without knowing of someone else who has had it without horrendous complications.

Haven't heard of that one yet. Have you ever tried a netti pot? Have to tell you a little story behind the netti pot useage...I've had severe sinus problems ever since I was a teen (and I'm 58 now.) I'd get such migraines and sinus headaches, I used to just lie in a darkened room with a pillow over my head. Then last spring I listened to a local news channel, they had a gal who was talking about using a netti pot to clear the sinus tract and lessen symptoms. Well, long story short, I got one and whenever I feel sinus problems coming on, I use it. This is the first spring in my whole life that I haven't had even one sinus or migraine from sinus problems.

You can google neti (netti?) pot and how to use it on the internet. I know it sounds strange, but it has it's beginnings in Yoga. The saline water takes all of the bacteria out, and clears the sinus tract. I was very skeptical in the beginning, but I honestly say it's the best and easiest method I've ever found to control my sinus problems. It's kind of similar to a sinus lavage, and I've had friends who've had to go to their Dr and have it done. This is easy to do once you get used to it, and boy, my sinus's never been better! I can even smell things better too. Anyways, just a thought...

I have heard of that, but am nervous to try it. What if I drown myself? LOL Seriously, I imagined that it felt similar to when you get water up your nose at the pool.

The first time I tried it I was scared to death lol. I had this image of drowning like you said, or that 'at the pool' feeling lol. Here's two links that give directions on how to use one. Done properly, the liquid just goes into your sinus and does not go down your throat. It's the way that you tip your head when doing it that makes it work right. I'll tell you, not only have my sinus attacks not happened anymore, but I haven't had a cold yet since I was doing it through the winter. Up until then I would catch everything that was going around...somebody visits and has a cold, and boom...I'd have it too. I found that after using this method, I didn't have one cold at all throughout the whole season. I think that's what really sold me on it, it made that big a difference.

This first link is from the Oprah show. This was the first time I ever heard of doing this, and later on these are the directions I bookmarked to keep. They're from that Dr. Oz that she has on frequently.

This second link from healing daily is a good read too, and has some other hints in it. As crazy as this sounds, it seems to work well for a lot of us sinus sufferers.

I talked to a friend who works at an ENT office about this procedure. She says her doctors refuse to do it as it is too risky. Also, she reminded me that that the sinuses are awfully close to the brain. Do I really want someone inserting a balloon into my sinuses and inflating it rapidly so close to my brain and then pulling it out still inflated? I think not.

Ewwwwwwww!! I had no idea that ballooning procedure was like that! Man, that is just downright scary. Just the fact that her Dr's there refuse to do it says volumes about how tricky and risky it might be. I don't think I would ever want that done! Thanks for filling me in on what that procedure is all about.
