Where the Idea of the Monster may have Started

I happened to watch about the last third of an old, 1998, monster type movie called "Deep Rising" on TV recently. It was on some gigantic cruise ship that the owner wanted to sink for the insurance but somehow sea monsters got on board. By the time I started watching there was the owner, some small boat captain and his buddy, a hot athetic brunette in a tank top (like Kate) and some kind of group of soldiers or mercenaries left running around the ship trying to get away from the giant octopus hydra type sea monsters. Anyway the boat captain, the hot brunette and the captain's buddy made it to some island after the cruise ship was blown up by a missle on the boat captain's boat. So they are on the beach and turn to look inland at the island and there are monster sounds and trees a ways off the beach start waving back and forth and tree limbs go flying in the air. So do you think the lost creators saw that movie?

It's possible, I haven't seen Deep Rising though I remember it coming out in the theater.
I was writing out a response to another discussion on Lost when it dawned on me how much this show is like "The Prisoner" series in the 60s. In that series, a bunch of people "who knew too much" were kidnapped and put on an island with these "rovers" that prevented them from doing anything they shouldn't, like leave the island. There were other things on Lost that reminded me of that show.
But, actually, I think the creators of Lost probably got ideas from a lot of sci-fi shows.
