Which Gas Guzzler Would You Love To See Banned From The Road?

I'm hearing that the Hummer will be either sold off, or killed outright because of high gas prices and low sales... That vehicle I my choice for outright banning from the roadways, and why, you might ask? Well for one thing, the Hummer is a totally unnecessary GIANT hazard for one thing. The other is, why would someone want an adapted military vehicle in the first place? Do you actually need to drive the kids to school in a APC? Conspicuous consumption, indeed! "Planet Killer" Hummer, it time to go! :( What's your choice of "Planet Killers " to be led to the chopping block?

I really don't think any of them should be taken off the road. It's their personal choice, if they want to spend a fortune on something that gets terrible gas mileage, good for them.

These Big Boys cause too many accidents. So many of their drivers simply expect other folks to get out of their way, and it doesn't happen all the time.

I'll have to take your word for that. The only accidents I've seen involving big vehicles were pick-up trucks and eighteen wheelers. I don't think you'll ever get either of those vehicles off the road.

Usually, the Hummer is involved in mainly Urban accidents. The Vehicle is hard to control in the smaller street and neighberhoods where it usually cruises.

my friend has a truck and a car, he cannot afford to run the truck anymore, unless he needs it for work, he finds it way too expensive.

I don't know how some folks are going to make ends meet, if they keep on driving these gas guzzlers... Painful tales were all over the radio this past weekend..

I have to agree that the Hummer should go. There is no practical reason for owning one other than it's physically impressive. I've always thought they were a horribly bad idea from they moment they went out on the market. As you said conspicuous consumption at it's worst. We are one of the few households that unfortunately HAVE to have a large vehicle, namely our SUV. We are musicians and have to have a vehicle large enough to haul an entire PA system to a job. I honestly wish it wasn't necessary but there is no viable alternative for our situation. Our SUV was actually a downsize from the huge Cargo Van we used to use for jobs. We still have it but it only gets driven about twice a year now that we have the SUV. The SUV gets much much better gas mileage.

You are living in a very lucky time, Crafty... The makers of large, practical use vehicles are finally getting a clue, and that are utilising ideas that were actually on the table many, many moons ago... Your response reminds me of when I was in a band. We had to have at least three vehicles, including the good old fashioned Station Wagon, think it was an old Bonneville... That damn thing was so big, it took two hours to turn a corner and the only safe place to park it was on an airline runway! LOL! :)

I guess I would go so far as consider the Hummer as an APC (short for 'Armored Personel Carrier'). To me it is all a matter of economics. It happen to me! I had a '89 Chevy Van and when gas prices got too high I had it scrapped and, with the money, I bought a Chevy Neon (aka 'The Beater'). Ford is already cutting way down on trucks because of lack of interest. Hummers, large vans and other such vehicles will find themselves in the scrap yard..just by a matter of ecomonics. Don't wish for something that will happen naturally. Concentrate your wishes on more viable things like employment, the increase value of the US dollar, or maybe even the increase of morals in people to make this society a better place to live!
