Anyone seen the pilot to the US version of this yet?

It's on youtube, if you dig about. Half of me wants to say it looks awful, like so many shows that cross the Atlantic, but on the other hand, they do look to be trying to stick to the same scripts, but with an american 1970s cop show feel (like say, Starsky and Hutch). Any thoughts?

Well it looks exactly the same but it's not as cool as the UK version. I'm sorry but nobody can replace John Simm. It feels somehow less gritty and less... well just less. I don't think I will be watching it when it actually airs in the fall... It feels like a poor imitation. And I know that US TV is capable of making UK hits into even bigger hits (see Queer as Folk). I feel slightly cheated.

The Office also did very well, apparently, though I confess to never having seen either version.

Erg. It's hard to say whether or not I would have liked it if I were unaware of the source. I can only look and see the things they left out. Ray and Chris are gone. The fight between Sam and Gene was way too short, but I suppose it was done in a more "American TV" way, with the hero establishing dominance quickly and easily. There's also the implication that there won't be any more of those fights. Otherwise, it was almost a word-for-word adaptation of the BBC's first episode. It might be enough to please the American audience, so that they'll continue it, but I don't know where they'll go after the first season, since one American season is as long as the entire number of episodes that aired on the BBC.

I can see it bombing, to be honest. Although I do think Colm Meaney as Gene is a pretty decent casting choice.
