Independence Day- A National Lie  | | | |  I woke up this morning thinking of the upcoming holiday here in the USA, Independence Day, The 4th of July.
I few questions ran threw my head and they saddened me as the truth of their answers sank in. I'd like to know what you think.
1) Our independence from England is what we are celebrating and honoring. Have we really honored that great milestone, or have we just become dependent on others?
2) What will happen to us as a nation if all oil imports were halted for 45 days?
3) What will happen to us as a nation if we lost the national power grid for 45 days?
4) What will happen to us as a nation if fast food was banned for 45 days?
5) What will happen to us as a nation if all the banks our government owes money too called in those notes today?
The answer to all these are the same. It would cripple us so badly, and for so long, that most people would do anything to be rescued from the trials these things would cause.
Are we independent? Not hardly. We traded our independence for fuel, plastic, big fancy cars, bigger fancier houses, and a lifestyle wayyyyyy beyond our ability to sustain without a ton of outside help.
What do we have to celebrate this 4th? Nothing. Nothing at all.

| | I tend to keep out of it, to be honest. Beyond going 'ooo' at the fireworks, I don't think I'll be doing much. I mentioned this at one point on here; As a Brit living in the States, it seems a bit silly to be celebrating the independence of this country from mine, at least for me personally. "Yay, we got rid of you" doesn't really seem to be in the spirit of the thing. The response I got was a bit Jingoistic, to say the least ;) | | | |

| |  Another question for you is are we all that different now from the country we gained our independence from? Nope. The rich run the country. The President is the King, The two houses have become the court, the lobbyists have become the Lords. What is different? Zilch. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer. A country based on religious freedom has become so intolerant some people fear being who they are. No, we really don't have much to celebrate.
