Sad Weekend for the Dawgs! | | As most of you that know me know, I am a HUGE Georgia Bulldogs Fan. Well, on this past Friday Night the Mascot for the University of Georgia died. He was a beautiful English Bulldog and was the sixth in the line of mascots at UGA. He will be missed. Just wanted everyone to know. The following was in a Macon Newspaper

Georgia's Uga VI dies| Sonny Seiler, Damon Evans talk about beloved mascot By Josh Kendall
ATHENS -- Uga VI, the biggest and winningest of Georgia’s famed lined of mascots, died Friday in his hometown of Savannah.
Uga, who weighed in at 65 pounds and presided over 87 wins by the football team, died of congestive heart failure, his owner Sonny Seiler said in a statement released several hours after Cecelia Seiler confirmed the death to The Telegraph.
“He was a good one,” Sonny Seiler said. “He was a strong and healthy dog. He was the biggest of all the dogs, and he had the biggest heart. It just played out.”
Uga VI was breathing heavily Friday evening, Sonny Seiler noticed.
“I noticed he had a little congestion in his throat, which usually is not a cause for alarm,” Seiler said. “I gave him a bath, which he always loved, to cool him off. After that, I called (family veterinarian Stanley Lester), whose office is about a four-minute drive from our house. (Uga’s) heart just played out. He suffered no pain and died peacefully.”
Cecelia Seiler, the matriarch of the Uga line, said the family lost more than just a pet.
“He lived right here in my den with me for 10 years,” Cecelia Seiler said. “He was a happy dog.”
Uga VI would have turned 10 on July 22. Only Uga I served past his 10th birthday. A successor, who will take the mantel as Uga VII before the 2008 football season, is available but won’t be announced until a later date.
“This is a very sad day for the entire Bulldog Nation,” athletics director Damon Evans said. “Uga VI was a damn good mascot and a damn good dog. He was an outstanding representative of our fine institution.”
Uga VI assumed his duties prior to the 1999 game against South Carolina at Sanford Stadium in a ceremony that included his father, Uga V. He bridged the Jim Donnan and Mark Richt eras and won two SEC championships with Richt’s Bulldogs in 2002 and 2005.
He was 87-27 overall, surpassing the previous record of 77-24-4 held by Uga IV. Uga VI’s registered name was “Uga V’s Whatchagot Loran?” — a reference to the question regularly asked of sideline reporter Loran Smith by play-by-play announced Larry Munson.
Uga VI will be buried this week in a private ceremony at Sanford Stadium in the marble vault that holds his predecessors.

As an Auburn fan, I am still somewhat bitter about the time Uga tried to bite one of our players. I'm not sure if that was this Uga or an earlier one. Either way, I'm sure the next one will have a good record as well. Georgia's football team has been doing things right as of late.

buldwgz (892) | 2 years ago | Thanks for the sympathy, especially coming from an Auburn fan. I think it was UGA V that tried to bite the Auburn Player. One of the early UGAs, I or II I think, actually peed on the LSU Tiger in Baton Rouge. He was deaf and the Tiger growled at him. It was supposed to make UGA scared and make him run away. He didn't hear it obvously and instead walked up to the cage and peed through and onto the Tiger...LOL.

belhaven14 (350) | 2 years ago | That is pretty good about one of the earlier Ugas peeing on the LSU tiger. I don't remember hearing about that. I think that is something we can both agree is hilarious.

I am sorry, I hope your next mascot is equally charming.

buldwgz (892) | 2 years ago | I am sure UGA VII will be adorable and charming, just like the others have been so far. They buried him today in the special area of Sanford Stadium. They are beloved by their Seiler family (their owners) in Savannah as well as their extended family at UGA.

| pattycherry (12) | 1 year ago | I am a huge Dawg fan. I cried when I heard the news about UGA. How could you not love him? The way he looked bowed up in his little jersey.
I loved it when UGA lunged at the Auburn player.
All the UGA's have that spunk we need in a mascot.
I know they take excellent care of the dogs. I heard UGA only drank bottled water. I don't know if it's true, but I wouldn't doubt it.
I'm proud to be a Georgia Fan; my blood bleeds red and black!
RIP UGA.

Is Uga VII ready to commence his duties for the start of the season?
As much as I love and appreciate the duties of these animals, I still think that the UGA Goat should be given a strong priority like it was in days of old. It's just not right that the UGA Goat has to walk the bridge during home games, while Uga lounges on bags of ice in his air conditioned house on the sidelines.

buldwgz (892) | 1 year ago | I think the goat would eat his bag of ice, and his house too. Thanks for the response UGA Alum!
