New shoes & old feet = blisters!

Shoes fall in to two categories for me, the ones which seem to be easy and painless to wear from day 1 and the majority of shoes which seem comfortable in the shop but then drain me of all my blood within the next few weeks and always remain uncomfortable! Unfortunately I've just bought some sandles and they fit into category 2? What would you recommend for preventing blisters?

I've learned my lesson when it comes to new shoes. Everytime I buy a new one, I have to remind myself to buy some Band-Aid adhesive bandages too. I try to put the bandage on the part where I generally get the most blisters from few minutes before wearing the new pair of shoes. For a few days it looked ugly because of all the bandages haha, but after a week or so it was okay to stop using bandages. No blisters.
