This bear has been on the mountain since I can remember. I do not know if someone planted the scrub brush to look like the bear or if it grew all my its self. I always loved seeing the bear when I was growing up. We had to stop at the Merced River where the road got washed out to let cars pass us on a one-way bridge. When I got out of the car to take pictures of the bridge I looked behind me and saw my old friend the bear. I had to take a few pictures.
Does anyone have photos of natural occurrence that look like animals? What do you think the bear is looking at? When I see the bear I think of the song "The bear went over the Mountain to see what he can see".
This bear is in the Sierra Nevada Mountains along the Merced River along highway 140 on the way to El Portal and Yosemite National Park.

aww--that's sweet..It really does make you wonder if someone planted the scrub brush purposely to resemble a bear. No I don't have any photos of anything that looks like something else, like an animal, but did you ever hear about the Nazca Lines in Peru? Supposedly they were made centuries ago in Pre-Columbian times,..the lines carved into the stone/earth are in shapes of monkeys, spiders, birds and so forth...and no one understands why they were made or even how

I have read about the Nazca line. I have seen them on TV also. I wonder why they are still there. I think it is great we still have wonders we do not know about.

I thought you were referring to an actual bear... so when i checked out the photo without reading your discussion in full... i was looking for one... then i saw this bear image which was so cool... i don't think anyone planted the shrubs so that it would look like a bear... it think it was more of a natural occurrance... and it sure is very neat...

Heehee I tricked you. I am sorry you where looking for a real bear. I do love the bear on the mountain. I do not think someone planted the scrub brush either. I think it was natural occurrence when I was up there the tree at his foot was not there. Now it looks like there is a bush growing to make it look like it is growing boobs. heehee

I think that once you get the hedge looking like what you need then it would be easier to keep it up than shaping it in the first place. One of our local vets office has their bushes shaped like animals it is cool.
