Macbook air | | | | The Macbook air is a designing feat, being the world's thinnest laptop ever. Measuring in at about .90 of an inch, the Macbook air can't have the power of a desktop, or even a good laptop, right? If you travel a ton, and don't mind losing your laptop in a small stack of papers, the macbook air might seem like a possibility to consider, but if you don't mind the already thin Macbook or Macbook pro, go for the Macbook or Macbook pro. Buying a Macbook air means forfeiting many features, including a major step back in processing power, a step down in hard drive space, A hard to replace battery, and a CD slot! Having to plug in a large external disc drive sort of loses the whole "Super portable" effect. The processing power is a mere 1.6 - 1.8 Ghz, the hard drive a small 64 - 80 GB (depending onn which processing power you choose, the smaller processing power for the bigger hard drive), and the CD slot is external, costs an extra $99 AND is not as thin as the notebook. The Powerbook goes from 2.4 to 2.6 Ghz of processing power, and up to a 300 GB hard drive. The macbook has 2.1 to 2.4 Ghz of power, way better, a whole 0.8 Ghz of power bonus on average. Sure, the macbook air can connect to the internet wirelessly, but the internet will be very slow. The macbook air also comes with 2 GB of RAM standard, and you can't upgrade to 4 GB, or get a discount and down-grade to 1 GB, so the Macbook Air is not so stretchable, either. When buying your macbook air, you will have to settle for very few options. No RAM options, and if you settle for the slower processing power, you get an 80 GB hard drive, still not very impressive. You get your selection of apps to choose from pre-installed, but if you install Logic Express, Final Cut express, and Aperture, not to mention the pro loaded iLife, and Leopard, plus Microsoft office and/or the iWork suite, are you going to have any room on the hard drive for large movie documents? You better but an external hard drive with that. Are the external hard drives really all that portable? What about your iTunes music library? Do you want some music? All of a sudden, your hard drive seems full. I will just buy storage online, for when I am on the go! You buy .Mac for $99 dollars and buy extra memory online for $10 a GB. Wow, things do add up quick! Now I better go buy some more software, I want the Adobe Creative Suite, after all. Wait! I don't have enough Hard drive space for that. Oh well, I guess I will just work with what I have. The Macbook Air is not the way to go, because if it was really all that portable, it wouldn't need an external disc drive, a spare hard drive, and all the other things that I need to speed up my computer. Still though, the macbook air is in my book not nearly as bad as Vista, but that is just my personal opinion. | | my first computer was a mac. ibook g4 mac osx. it had so many freaky things that went wrong before it was a year old. after the warranty expired and it continued to get worse to where i could hardly stand it. i took it in. they charged me $70 and said nothing was wrong with the hard drive. that's all. there were so many problems that were driving me crazy. they wouldn't help me unless i gave them more money. they didn't give me suggestions or talk me thru anything. bad service. it was beautiful but wouldn't work well. | | | | | | | | vorksholk (86)

| | Really? I have always been happy with apple's service, but maybe your apple store is not as friendly of something, because I only have had problems with dell. Good luck with your next computer, whether it be Mac or pc, or something in between! Personally, I have been happy with ibook g4s, but I have not used them too often. I can't believe apple was that mean to you. | | | | greenglitterturtle (1898)

| | Well, Toshiba is a good brand, and refurbished is better than used, so I'm happy you like the laptop. Is it running Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows Me, Windows 2000, Windows 98, Windows 95, Windows 3.1, Windows 3.0, or Windows 1.1 /1.0? I think windows XP works fairly well, for I have a laptop that runs that, an iMac desktop with leopard (Aluminum) a dell desktop and a really old IBM laptop, weighing in at about 12 pounds. I don't think I will ever get this to work, but it runs on Windows 1.0, or Ms-dos original. | | first of all, Gates needs Gates. :D now back to our world, i have windows xp. and i don't know a lot about computers. i've actually only been using one for a little over 3 years. but i have found out in a short amount of time that i cannot live without one. when i first got my mac laptop and went online to explore, i was blown away. the internet was like a whole new universe. a whole entirely different world that exists inside this one. like a parallel universe. i started meeting a lot of sleepless nights devoted to the internet. | | | | | vorksholk (86)

| | The internet is great, but many sleepless nights must not have been fun. I never enjoy staying up late, but the internet is amazing, filled with all of the cool websites, and loaded with information for seeking eyes. | | | | greenglitterturtle (1898)

| | to be honest sometimes i don't think it's fun. i just can't stop. i think okay time to cut it off, but one more thing and then i'm stuck. then i can't sleep cause i'm so wide awake then i might as well go back online. next thing you know it's very early morning. my sister keeps saying i'm obsessed. but i think she is obsessed with calling me obsessed. | | | | | vorksholk (86)

| | Man, the internet is addicting, but I have never had it keep me up, I try to limit my time as much as I can. Sometimes I invite friends over, or start to write a book. My brother knows a lot more about computers than I do, and sometimes I e-mail him, but I suppose that is still the internet. | | | | | | | Ask Tech Support Now Tech Support Will Answer You Now!
