Ask a country music fan what country music is! I don't think anybody knows.
Is it Folk, Trad, Hillbilly, Bluegrass, Sad Songs, R&B....what exactly is it?
"Hey! Did you happen to see the most beautiful girl in the world?"
I love that song!
It's a country classic!
But it isn't country ... or is it?

Well Bluegrass is a very country type of music, but then again so is folk... and of course trad is not exactly city music either, and hillbilly is a cross breed between bluegrass, with a country singer married to his cousin, with a touch of Dolly Parton songs, not to mention R&B is you take out the drugs replaced by moonshine of poteen as we call it in Ireland......actually then we have Celtic music..... err that's a bit country type as well and Aboriginal throat singing (with moonshine, poteen, drugs, alchohol mixed up into a nice coctail) err what was the question again!!!

Morning Frank. How are you today...I agree, it is confusing and you were doing so well there with your explanation. Funny that the only artiste who you mentioned by name was Dolly Parton. She's under the country heading allright and covers a lot of the folk, hillbilly and appalachian traditional music. Her songs are all over the place. Do you know "Love is like a Butterfly". Do you remember that was the Themesong from the BBC comedy Butterflies with Wendy Craig. Then the themesong to the film Ghost was "I will always love you", which was also a Dolly Parton. Lastly we cannot forget "Working Nine to Five"... Are these three songs country or not?
Many people are surprised when I say that Dolly Parton wrote the song for Ghost. I suppose they just have a narrow view of her range of talents in their heads.
