How do you choose a brand of wine?

Today was my Dad's birthday. I asked him what he wanted from me. He asked for a Cabernet Sauvignon wine. Ok, I figured, how hard could that be? There were tons of different brands and prices to choose from. I stood there perusing the labels. I know nothing about wines. I wanted to get a nice mid-price wine. Finally, my eyes lit up a brand called "Wild Horse". Perfect I thought. Why? Because my Dad's favorite song is "Horse with no name"! I am sure my Dad will "get it". What is the strangest way you ever picked out which brand of wine to get? Has anyone tried Wild Horse wine? Please tell me it's decent!
