Anyone else up in the middle of the night? I'm fighting sleep!

Usually I'm chasing sleep because I have so much trouble getting to sleep. But tonight I'm afraid to go to sleep. Two mornings in a row I've been rudely awakened by extreme leg cramps that take my breath. My leg muscles are tender from the cramps this morning. I'm afraid that if I go to sleep I'll be grabbed by the cramps again and it is SO painful. The doctor said to increase my calcium and potasium, so I am doing that. Today I've had two large bananas, yogurt, and about a fourth of a cup of raisins. All are high in potassium. Yet my legs still feel strange, like they are ticking and will explode into explosive cramp pain. I got a list of foods high in potasium and will go to the store to get some of them so i don't get completely bored with bananas and raisins. Have any advice for me?

I am so sorry to hear you are experiencing this youdontsay, It takes about 24 hours for that needed potassium and calcium to start to work. Have you been sweating in the heat more so that usual? It takes both potassium and calcium for good muscle health, they work hand in hand. I hope that now 18 hours later when I post this it will find you with some relief. If you are experiencing electrolyte imbalance from the heat, try some gatorade along with your diet changes.

I'm trying to include more potassium rich foods in my diet - bananas, dried apricots, oranges, sweet potatoes, etc. It has helped a lot.

I am still up now hehe 2am here already. Well as for advice I think being tired before sleeping works. Also I think drinking something warm might work. Hope you get a good night sleep.

Thanks. I'm about ready to return to bed. I had some yogurt, another potassium rich food. Hope this works, cause I'm whooped!
