I Miss My Husband So Badly That My Lips Are Tinglig!!

Canada

This is nuts!!!! 11 days after we got married in September of 07 I had to fly home to Canada. A few months later I was able to fly back to the USA where my husband was still working, and stay for a while, or atleast until I suffered a rather extreme case of culture shock/aerican burn out, and needed to get back to Canada. Seriously, to this Canadian it seems the American media takes religion and politics way too seriously. I've been hiding out in The Second Cup in Guelph, ever since I got back two months ago. It's nice in here. No American news boradcasts, only good coffee and familiar territory. I was just listening to the BBC World Service on the internet. I love the BBC! I hope my husband can find a job up here soon enough. I miss him so much my lips are tingling. When he gets up here next month for the wedding ceremony we're having with family and friends, I don't think I'm going to let him go again. ;)

I would be tempted to move to the U.K., except they are even more Stasi-like than the American government. This is coming soon, probably around the end of the year, to Canada. I still think Denmark would be our best bet.

What you need was to watch a different program. Maybe it was the people who you hung around with. I'm not into religion nor politics. I find both boring, I rather do or listen to something else. Nor all american are into those two category. It's also nice over here, depending where you go. We have Disneyland, to go have a good time. we also have Six flag for excitment. And we also have San Diego, Sea World. We have some many nice places to visit. I say stay away from people who only thing about religion and poltitics, that no fun. them two would put me to sleep. Now with TV, you have so much to pick from. If you have cable even better. You have your sitcoms like FRIENDS, that keep you laughing all day long. you have STANDING STILL, ROSEANN, KING OF QUEENS. This are just a few. But please don't think that all American are into just religion and politics. If your husband doesn't get a job in Canada, hang in there and find other people that will make you stay a lot better. Someone who is willing to show you the town, and have a great time. I'm sure each state has something good to offer. Hang Danish, us American have a lot of good times, and plenty to see. Ask MYLOT, I sure each one will tell something different. If you lets us know what state you're in, we can tell what to see, where to go. Maybe you're feeling this way, because you're family is in Canada. If you give us a chance, you will be a very happy bride.

Kaleegirl. I gave the USA a BIG chance. My husband understands that I see something that some Americans just don't see aout how much more agressive American SOCIETY (not individuals but he the way the country runs) than Canada is. My husband has worked all over the world, and he sees it himsel, and that's why HE wans to get OUT!!! He's wanted to get out since he came back from Viet Nam nearly dying for a country in a war he didn't believe in, only to be treated like a second-class citizen by his own givernment.

We're so using to our way of living, that we don't see what others do. I'm so sorry to that not only you're husband but all that fought in Vietnam were treated the same way. One happens to be my brother and a very good friend of mine. So I can understand why your husband would want to move out of the US.

thats a good decision!! never let him go again..since when married it means for better and for worse and 1+1=1..so either of you must decide on which location you will choose to live and have family..

But it also depends on his job. Will he get the same job over there? Will he get paid the same? There are so many question? You have to make it what you want. Give it a chance, and don't listen to anyone that is talking about religion or politics. Just tell "hey, I'm into that, so change the subject." You will find friends that will show a great time in America.

My husband and I lived apart for 2 months while we moved to another state in the US. I got out here to start my job, and he stayed home to finish his rugby season with his team. I really missed him, but we had not yet been married a full year, and there was something nice about the alone time - I cooked the way I like to cook, and took hot baths and things I don't always get to do when he is around. It was a sort of mini-vacation for a bit, but I was thrilled to see him!! As for American overload, I used to live close to the Canadian border, and I watched the CBC a LOT. I always watched sports on CBC because they didn't get into all the gossip and BS that american stations do. But if you don't like TV, you can always turn it off. I haven't had television service at my house for over a year, I listen to NPR on the radio, and I feel less stressed out, and I'm not getting my head jammed with crap every night!

Hi cassidy I've an American all my life, we were brought up going to church on every Sunday. FINALLY, i was grown up and I didn't have to do that any more. My mother is what I call a church freak. she doesn't go to chruch but she will watches it on TV. As you said you don't have to listen or hear if you don't want. I have to totatlly argee with you. There are better thing to watch to Mass on TV. I'm sure we all have our moment where we pray to God. But to make it an everyday thing, I don't think so. How I wish I could have those moment where nobody was home to do what I want, when I want. I hate to watch sports, since I don't understand them, that's why I always watch my programs. Listening to music, what a way to relax. What type of music do you like? The NEWS, nothing but positive, all negative. You don't need to listen to any of that. I love the way you're way of having a good vacation. (without a husband, thought you miss him, but a good one mini vacation)

You do not have to apologize for starting a similar discussion. I pointed out my link so that you would know that I feel the way you do, and that I have also written about it. Though our situations are similar, they are still similar. Thank you so much for responding to this.

if it weren't for religion and politics, we would still be a British colony.

Bad mostly for us who of English decent and African decent too.Chances are that the original 13 colonies and Canada would be the only English speaking territories, if there isn't a u.S., there isn't the Louisiana Purchase.and without that, everything west of the Mississippi would belong to the French and The Spanish. And if you are of African decent, you would Still be a slave of some sort. No U.S., no Declaration Of Independence. And without it, would there really be people who would stop slavery?I mean if this and the Constitution weren't written, would the concept of freedom become a birth rite here? I don't think so.I could be wrong.

Wow! That's nice, you're sooooooooo in love :). You should get together soon! It pains me to see people in love being torn apart by distance. It's really sad. I'm sure you're missing him a lot. I hope you'll see him soon and yes, hold on to that. Don't ever let him go again, you deserve that.

That is too bad that you had to separate from each other only after 11 days of marriage. I hope you find the time together again when he goes to visit you. I agree Americans take religion and politics too far out and it bugs me so I don't watch the news as much.

After posting I had another thought. It is good that the USA takes religion seriously or the molestation of over 500 kids from the Chatholic church may have just gone unnoticed. I am curious as to Canada and Mexico, if the citizens and media of these two Countries think that this isnt happening as well? I was reading in the local paper here in Mazatlan of over 130 reports in less than 3 months of child abuse here. In over 30 different grade schools and kinders. This type of thing isnt limited to the country line or border. Very sad isnt it?

The Good old US Of A. I think the reason that America takes politics and religion so seriously is because its a religously free state built on politics. Or is it the other way around. Regardless of what it is and what people think of it. Everyone sure likes the money made from the work there. As far as the BBC goes they are the biggest and thus the most cencored media in the world, Whats not to love about that. I can see after time around the majorally cencored micro medias of the USA a bit of BBC might just be refreshing. just know that your not the only one suffering from culture shock and that at least your in Canada. Sure hope that your hubby gets back soon so that your lips will stop tingling. You dont think this tingle might be from something they are putting in the drinks at the Second Cup? LOL :)

Thank you for being a loving and caring wife. I understand the challenges you are passing through though you've not said what nationality of your husband is. Both of you should consider the advantage and disadvantage of one of you working in a distant place. In family and Job consideration which is which first? To me I would consider family first because jobs are they even if it seems nowhere at the moment, but it will be available someday and family if you loose you know the outcome of it. Thanks to the availability of the BBC. Especially World News, focus on Africa, net work Africa and BBC Kiswahili Services I listen to BBC trough flash player in my cellphone wherever I am.

Guess every one goes through cultural shock when they move or visit from their own country to another. Hope you and your hubby have many happy years and hope he finds work soon if not maybe you should reconsider moving back to the US where he has a job already. WE aren't all bad here...lol

hello, i cant help but smile when i read the title of your discussion coz i know exactly what it is like. it is understandable that you feel that way coz you guys are away, i know some will say that it is just a distance and you still have each other despite that STILL it is not enough coz the personal presence itself is a huge difference just than talking on the phone. i have to agree that US is becoming more and more into religion and politics lately and not much about the issues that is more important. i know politics is important but to hear it 24/7 will not make a change at all. i like BBC myself coz they seem to be more fair and give both sides of the stories. i have never been to canada but i like the place coz it looks very clean and just peaceful. i have never heard anything bad about canada and mostly it is about the great stuff specially the health issues that americans dont have. i think i will feel what you are feeling right now soon coz my hubby will go up in BC for a training and it will be a week trip. we wish i can go but we have pets at home and it is more of a business trip and it wont be fun at all. oh well. im sure i will want the same thing of not letting him go once i got him back LOL anyway, you sure sounds very in love and i am happy to hear that. it makes me smile when i see someone happy and in love coz it is one of the greatest feeling in the world. have a good one!
