No they don't wake me up, thank goodness. Have you ever seen one trying to peck on a metal pole? That was funny, maybe he was sharpening his beak? hahaha
We have so many woodpeckers around here but mainly in the back yard next door to us. It is a vacant house with a huge dead tree back there and they love that tree. I am not sure what type of woodpeckers that we have around here, they have a red neck or red somewhere that I can see.

hi GrandpaBob, my mom has some woodpeckers in the garden and she dislikes them as they damage the trees...... lol...... we dont have enough trees here in the neighbourhood and so no woodpeckers here. Sometimes my sparrows and other birds wake me up feasting on the birds food on the balcony table.

Hello friend I have not seen a woodpecker during the last 5 years. Yes there were some in the tree in front of our home in the village home; but the tree is no more. I don't find in other trees too, God knows where thet gone? Cheers friend, happy bird watching.

I know that was a pain and when you got up there was no one there. Then to find out that it was not a person knocking but a woodpecker. At least you didn't get out your gun and shoot it. They can be really noisy when they are pecking on wood. There was one that was in my fathers back yard. Just about every summer I would hear it. This summer I have not heard it knocking on anything. I guess it found somewhere else to peck.

you seem to have everything over there. I know I don't respond to all of your discussion, but each time I read your post, I could picture you sitting out there staring at the woodpecker, I see the tress that are hugh. (since I don't know what a Red Maple looks like)Yor're strawberries on one side of your house, a stream running through the back of your house. It's like a fairy tale.

How sweet, I would love to see a live woodpecker, I have seen them in pictures and on tv, and I like the cartoon one too! I love birds, they are so lovely we have loads of birds in the trees where I live at the bottom of my garden. They are full of crows, magpies and blackbirds, next door get a lot of lovely birds in their garden, they get these birds, but I am not allowed to type the name on here as it is a violation apparently but they are known as blue t.ts then there are a family of wrens. They are such a tiny bird the wren, it is quite unusual to see them as close as I have, I tried to get a photo of them once but just could not get them through the window.

Hahahahaha! Maybe that is their way to wake you up Grandpa..LOL! ANyway, we have no noise as that..the only sound that will wake me up is the chirping of the birds even at 3 am..LOL!

My gram used to have a woodpecker at her house and for the longest time had no idea what it was . When I stayed over over the summer during school break many years ago I heard the noise too . I knew right away what it was . Funny, Thing is few days later it just went away .
When I first moved into my house I heard a knock on my door around 8 am and went to answer it,and noone was there . Then, I heard the noise again and this time went on the porch, and saw a few doors down there were some people working on a roof . My oh My did I feel foolish .

lol well what a way to have to wake up in the morning. by a woodpecker. that is funny. i was reading your discussion as fast as i could as to who could have been at your front door that early in the morning. lol and yes, we do have woodpecker's here in the Nashville area. we have all kinds of birds here in our area of town. my family and myself live close to the lake and we have awaken in the mornings here before to have four or five big ugly vultures in our back yard. ewww. those are some gross looking ugly birds. we have red birds and blue jays and owls and doves. crows and big black birds as well. thanks for sharing your story of the woodpecker awaking you like that with all of us here at Mylot.

I don't have woodpeckers at my house but my mom has a couple of them at her house. They would wake me up if they were making noise though as I am a light sleeper. They are such neat birds though.
