Public Swimming vs. Private Swimming

Do you swim in a public pool or private pool? If you swim in public pools, do you ever wish you had a pool at home? And if you have your own pool, is it indoors, or covered in some way to keep it clean, or is it exposed? I have always loved to swim, but rarely got to unless I was staying at a motel or something. But the new place we bought has an above ground pool, which is a really nice size, definitely not the dream pool, but definitely nice for swimming in. The thing that bothers me the most is, it is under tons of trees, and the leaves are always falling into it, so I spend a good portion of my pool time just cleaning the bugs and leaves out.. and that really creeps me out. LOL Then once it's ok I can swim, and I still have to deal with creepy crawly bugs. That comes to my question about whether the pool is covered, I just wanted to know if it's possible to have a pool somewhat sheltered, like in a pool house, and if something like that is extremely expensive. That would be my dream, I wouldn't even care if it was big, just big enough to cover the pool at all times so I could swim without icky stuff getting in the pool. LOL Yes, I'm very squeamish. Anyway, I'd love to hear about other people's pool experiences, both public and private.

maybe you can get one of those screen room tent things you see at lowes that is to where you can sit out in the yard in a screened in area? you would have to find an altered kind or something since above pool would prob be too tall or wide.. i grew up with a huge pool in my area and swam all the time.. moved up here and never get to swim..

Yea, that's what I was thinking about. For now I just have to deal with it the way it is, but once my dad moves down here, or when we get some extra money I might talk to him about that, because that really sounds like a good idea! I love to swim, and I'm so glad I have the pool, but I hate bugs! LOL My dad is here this weekend and he drained the pool and cleaned it and refilled. A lot of water, but it was so disgusting, he said it was full of algae, I think he was gonna get some stuff you put in there to keep that out. So hopefully that helps with that nastiness. LOL

If I am going to build my own house, I will have a pool inside the house. It will be placed in the first level of the house, just beside the dining area. What a dream. But now that we still have that house, and we want to have some leisure time with water, public pool is ok. Anyway, the pool has always somebody left to keep it clean...

Oh! That sounds so amazing! Someday, when I have plenty of money, that is, I plan on having a pool in my house. But that will be a long time from now. But for now I can't at least dream! But the way you describe the one you want, that sounds AMAZING!

Hey! I like swimming at my house best because that is when you get the most peace and you can just relax, or you could even daydream if you would like . Sometimes the public pools are just jammed back. Yeah, towards the end of the summer so much leaves fall into my swimming pool and this is even after the night cover comes off . The fliter gets some , but then you have to use the vac and that can be a pain in the bum. I have noticed that public pools have a very strong smell as well and sometimes that makes me sick.

Hi greysfreak. Well for me both.. If it's going to be a public pool I'll make sure that I'll be the first person to dive in that pool.LOL If it's a private..well that would be a happy outing..because you'll be would a group of close friends so that's fine. But if it's really a public pool...if I see that there are a lot of people...I'd rather stay in the cottage and just watch my friends things. **wink** such a killjoy huh?!?...well...just avoiding the possible skin diseases that I'll get. ;p

When I used to live with my parents we had quite a large pool in the backyard and every summer I would be in it every day. (We lived in Michigan so we could really only have the pool open in the summer months). Since I have moved to Florida on my own with my boyfriend I live in an apartment so I just have the public apartment pool. I still go in it sometimes but not as much. I miss having my private pool. The thing I don't like about public pools is there always seems to be so many children! I remember I was trying to swim laps one day and the kids knew this yet they refused to get out of the way when I would get to one end of the pool. I wanted to be like 'where are you parents idiots?!' My boyfriend and I are thinking about purchasing a new home and finally getting away from renting and putting our money into something that is OURS. We definitely want to build a pool in the backyard, that is a must have for both of us. And being in Florida we will most definitely put a cage around it!
