i have had other meds in my past just stop working (im a mutant i think) but i have been on advair for years but i have been having really bad breathing problems which i chalked up to not taking it 2x a day and only taking it 1x a day (trying to make it last longer) so i upped to 2x a day and my asthma seems to have gotten worse!! i dont know if its a coincidence or what but i always remember how it says if your asthma is under control dont take it.. well my asthma has never been under control so i didnt think anything about it.. anyways my question is that has anyone been on this for years and then it just become ineffective? i have the highest dosage there is now.. and if you have had to change from advair can you let me know what they put you on so i will know some names of meds before i go to my doc and then i will be ok if he wants to put me on something i have already heard of.. i hate it and will argue with the doc sometimes if i think its some crappy med no one has heard of.. and im in the USA so i would need to know the usa names of it.. thanks for any help

My question would be has the med changed in any way since the med was working for years then all of a sudden stopped.

I don't know of anyone who takes advair for asthma. I know several people who are on Advair, but all of them take it for COPD. My father has taken it for years and swears that if you take it 2x daily, it works. My husband is on it and I know for a fact that if he doesn't take it, he ends up in the ER if not admitted to the hospital for severe breathing problems. The hubby went without it for a few days and the ER doc was extremely afraid that he would not be able to get my husband to breath on his own again. The hubby was in the hospital for a week, three days of which was in the ICU. My advice, don't play with the dosage. I have asthma, and I have just a regular inhaler for that. Advair is generally prescribed for people with very severe asthmatic bronchitis and emphazema.
