i keep hearing about parents that their kids become celebrities and make a ton of money and then all of a sudden the parents start spending it.. i thought there was a law that kept it in an account or something for the kid till they become an adult?? well no matter what i can under stand them taking some since obviously they are providing housing and transportation all over the place and etc but when parents just completely live off their kids just makes me mad!! it puts so much pressure on the kids and a kid shouldnt have to worry if their family is gonna eat based on them winning a contest or something!! maybe im just crazy but it just doesnt seem fair..

I definitely think it is horrible when parents do this! What should be made to happen is, some of the money maybe be put into a trust fund, then the kid should get a good amount of it at present time of making it, because they did make it--so they should be able to at least have fun with it since they did work for it. Then some of it should be used to take care of the kid.
I think it's horrible that some parents will use their kids money to buy themselves all kinds of stuff, it's just wrong. I know that I have said stuff before to my dad about if I make it with my music I will give him money, and he always says he doesn't want my money. So I think that should be the attitude of these celebrity parents, they shouldn't *want* to live off their kids.
Now, if the kids want to give their parents money, then that is great! I know if I had money I would give my parents stuff, and money. But a kid shouldn't feel obligated to give a lot of their money to their parents. Now, if the parents want to buy a better house or better car, and it's to benefit the child as well, then I think that would be appropriate.
I think I remember several incidents with this, I think McCauley Culkin sued his parents for his money (or something like that), and I think LeeAnn Rimes got herself emancipated. So there are cases out there like this, and they never turn out great.
Now, if I was a parent of an entertainer I would give them all the support I could and I would use the money to give them a better life, and I would work on my own career as well, but I guess some people don't want to do their own stuff!

seems like the parents just make themselves and "agent" so they can take some of the money and not do anything.. or they are like jessica and ashley simpson where their father has pretty much sunk their careers

There is a federal law in the U.S. called the Coogan law (after Jackie Coogan) that prohibits that. There has to be a third-party accountant to safeguard a child actor's money.

how long has that law been in affect? britney spears is 26 and was like 16-18? when she started out?? of course its not like some of hers would be covered under that since it would be pageants and etc..

It's been in effect since the late '30s. Child actor Jackie Coogan had ALL of his money ripped off by his parents when he was in "The Little Rascals". The law was passed when Congress found out about it. Unfortunately, too late.

Dear friend,
I the celebrity child do have much of helpers and among them the trusted people are only parents and hope if that child is not mature enough the parents may protect them. Moreover if parents are well wise and well to heart hope the child may be given the right path and on the other side if they are not good I hope the child may have a fight when he know it or may it may be too late. Hence I feel that the government itself may put a rule or law that the earning of child be in certain authorised custody with those payments paid which are justifiable and for the welfare of the child and his family and when the child turns that age which is legally able to handle the money it may be given to that child.

I am totally with you Moon. I mean, sorry for the word, but parents who actually live a life of luxury out of their kids money and sometimes, the worst could be they do not consider working anymore, are simply wrong. They may be lucky, I'd have to give it to 'em. But the poor child having to work and some times unknowingly having their money being used. They may still be thinking it's just a form of play or fun but still, I can't find any good reason for it to be used for personal gain on the parents' side.
I'd agree though if it's used on bills and investment for the family and most especially or the future of the child (getting to and finishing schooling). If I was that child, when I grow up I'd probably thank my parents more, if that's the case, for taking good care of me and respecting the importance of my future. Take care all!

Exactly.
Maybe somewhere, sometime, someone may have actually gotten close to knowing a child star with his/her parents spending the money for themselves. And yeah, it will really be sad if they force the kid to continue even if he/she doesn't want to anymore.

i guess they figure the kid will keep making money and no one will notice how much they are spending.. of course then you have the parents when their kid does want to quit they wont let them.. maybe that is why lol

I would agree with the fact that it seems right to take some to help and support the child's needs. After all, they are going to need more expensive things then the average child (clothes for special events, transportation, ect). On the other hand, just going crazy and spending it can be a huge issue. But there are a lot of people out there who would love to not have to work and some who wouldn't mind living off of their children.

I have heard that parents spend some of their childrens money from child actors. I believe it is depending on what the parents are spending the money for. Are they spending the money for a place to stay or food for the house or what. It shouldn't be spent on the parents personal interest.

yeah it should only be spent on things that their kid would benifit from.. i think their parents should keep on working unless they are totally busy keeping up with their kids careers
