Toys r us,who needs them |

| We have just been out for a couple of hours ,there was hubby and me and my daughter and her son,who is nearly eleven months old.At the moment my daughter has gone to pick up her daughter from school, and little grandson is playing on the floor..with a saucepan,a spatula,a couple of wooden spoons and a few other odd bits.Admittedly the saucepan banging on the floor tiles isnt blissful, but lol its keeping him occupied!!!..what dod you choose to try to keep your kids busy? | | | | | |

| | When i was a child a large box appeared in my Fathers cellar, and I fell in love with that box,to me it was a caravan, and I was going to live in it ,and decorate it all out inside lol,but re the cornmeal..my grandson likes to play with some pasta shells,he doesnt put them into his mouth,we watch him carefully though. It is very true about the things that the little ones play with ,and the boxes are always a very big favourite. | | | |

| | My daughter who's 2 loves playing with a tall old cardboard box. She likes to take all sorts of things that she finds around the house (including car keys sometimes!) and puts them in her box. Then she tips the box on its side and takes the things out, or sometimes tries to crawl in there. It's true that sometimes the simplest things can keep them occupied. My mum said that when I was little I used to love bashing saucepans with wooden spoons too! These things are often much for exciting than expensive toys, lol! | | | | | | |

| | Wooden spoons and spatulsa seem to have a great fascination for little ones, and they are harmless things for them to play with too.No matter which child you seem to look at they always seem to have favourite little things around the house that they love to play with. | | | |

| | My little one's favourite toys are definately my pots and pans. He likes to 'cook' and old wine bottle corks are ideal for moving from one pan to another with a ladle. He also has a thing about potatoes. If I leave them within reach he enjoys moving them around in pans too, and just generally chucking them about for the sheer hell of it. We found a whole stash sprouting quietly under the bed the other week! | | | | | | |

| | I suppose the motto has to be s long as they are out of harms way,and keeping themselves entertained then that is all ok.The saucepans are fine, but mine tends to lob the saucepan lol and it smacks down on the tiles and makes a dar awful racket, but in the name of entertainment I can put up with it!I cant quite see the fascination in potatoes lol..maybe he is a budding chip shop owner.. | | | |

| | You'd be astonished the fun that's to be had with a box of potatoes! You can lob them, and if you lob them out the front door at the right angle you can get them to roll down the hill and make Mummy yell curses. | | | |

| | true, my daughters do not have the latest (we have gamecube instead of a wii) but we still have fun. my youngest daughter has fun just playing catch with a glove and a ball with her dad and we still blow bubbles every summer :-) | | | | | | |

| | This have to have the latest game etc is a bit of nonsense, the amount of money that we have ever wasted buying them the latest gadget,to visit and find that its been cast aside!!and the latest gadgets are most often the most exoensive ones too!!I think the most precious toy you can give your child is your time...a child who has a lot of input from their parents is in the whole a well balanced child. | | | |

| | Hi ruby.. that's great that he was busy and didn't cry and look for his mom..LOL! Maybe he will be a future chef exposing too early with those things ..LOL! My friends used to give their kids a brush, plastic plate anything in the house that their kids will not break especially if they are bored with their regular toys! | | | | | | |

| | Improvising is the very best way of entertainment,it makes a child more creative,it helps the imagination to work strongly too.You cant omprovise to well with a manufacturers toy,but the magic that you can make with a cardboard box is something else. | | | | | | |

| | Yes i agree with you,a child can derive a lot of pleasure from playing with a box,or some kitchen bits and pieces..as much as from playing with the latest toys on the market, which are often bought and then used for a day or two and just shlved in favour of someting much simpler.A box can be so many things in the eyes of a child. | | | |

| | I think the toys that got the most use in my house were the ones that were more "reality-based" - the food toys, the doll stroller, the play kitchen, etc. | | | | | | |

| | The reality toys are pretty good as they do have educational benefits, they help to teach the child the ways that certain things happenThe toy kitchens are great fun,and if the children are supervised then thats even better as they can go baking!..ours had a laundry set when they were kids, the ironing board, and iron, the laundry rack etc,and they played for ages with them. | | | |
