I know that this might sound crazy but I need to express myself. I am a newcomer to Mylot. Been here only a week. I absolutely love it, have made some great friends, am enjoying the conversations which are well thought out not like any other site I've seen before. What I don't understand is when I start a discussion I sometimes get little or no comments and no credit from Mylot. I know I have alot to learn but I'm not understanding what I'm doing wrong. So if someone could explain I would appreciate it. Where are my friends when I need them? Everyone has been so unbelieveable. I really have trouble getting things done because I can't tear myself away from Mylot. I stayed up until 3AM looking at all the discussions and deciding what I wanted to comment on. I really think before I write (even sometimes it doesn't seem like I do. So if anyone has any helpful tips for me I would be ever to grateful.

Adding more people to your "friends" list is the key to getting a lot of responses. A lot of people go thru there e-mail notifications from friends first before they hit other discussions. Hope that helps Opal. Oh by the way I'm sending a friend request.

I faced the same challenge when I first joined. The primary reason is that to start getting responses, a member needs a lot of friends. There are so many discussions floating around mylot, that it takes quite a few friends to respond before the discussion becomes 'seen' by a lot of other members. I have, I think, over two hundred friends, although they aren't all active, which is something everyone deals with. I leave all my notifications on so I get every discussion notification when a friend posts a discussion. But even with all those friends, the discussions don't always strike a chord, so sometimes people won't have anything to add. And if the response is not at least three lines, mylot won't pay for that.

Hi Opal, sorry just in from work and here tonight temporarily, the only advice I can give is to keep posting, keep responding and keep having fun with this site. When you post you don't get points for each response just the one for posting a discussion however it id in these discussions that you can respond and start to build friendships, when I first started I would maybe get two or three responses per post, today after 6 months I have achieved my first discussion with over 100 posts which is fantastic, believe me it will build. My first month I only just made payout, it double the next month and has been consistently at around $30 since. Also make sure you tag your discussions so people with who reply to simlar will see. I am really pleased you are enjoying it here. Ine thing to try to do is always respond using four lines of text as that seems to pay more. Persevere and reap the rewards of great friends and some extra money too. Huggles. Ellie :D

Hi Opal26, welcome to mylot. It really helps if you think before you write. But sometimes I don't really do that. My policy here in mylot is "the more you write, the more you earn". So it means that I have to make 4 plus sentences when I make a post. And that also means that I need to make a lot of posts. I also think that "the more friends you have, the more you will earn." It's really hard in the first days to have a lot of responses for your discussions. That is the case for all newbies I think. So it is normal. So post a lot, when you see a discussion you think you can respond to, jump at it. Have a lot of friends, invite everyone who respond to your discussions. And post discussions with universal topics, that way anyone can easily respond to your discussions. For more tips, visit: http://earnalotinmylot.blogspot.com/ Have a nice day!

Hello Opal26, welcome to mylot, I think that you simply need to write discussions that interest you. If they interest you then usually it will interest somebody else too. Now think about this for a minute. This is an open forum which means if 100,000 or so people are out there, they will reply to your discussions only if they feel like it. So make sure it's something that is quality and something that can really catch somebody's attention. This is my main tip. I've been here about 7 months now and somebody has always replied to my discussions. You simply have to make it something that people want to hear about. That's the main key. It's good that you enjoy mylot so much and that you've found a place where you feel comfortable at. Take care, keep at it and enjoy mylotting!

I wonder, since this discussion is a year old, how you would respond to it now as a veteran if you saw this from a newbie? :-)

Hi dawn~ I would give them the advice that I was given. I try to help newbies if I can because I was given help by people who were veterans with lots of patience. They told me to just keep posting and I will learn as I go and that's what I tell newbies who ask for help. And if they have specific questions I try to do the best that I can to respond to them. I believe that they deserve a chance to learn this site just like the rest of us did! It took me some time, but I learned and am still learning every single day that I am here!
