A lot of us live in the large hectic cities of today and have adopted the fast pace of life associated with them. We tend to loose or forget some of our true identities while adapting into a cosmopolitan one. This gets to be more evident over time and over generations. We often get reminded and feel the urge to get back and experience our roots. Do you get that urge, and how is that you go through this experience ? Is it Taking a trip , cultural programs and events, collecting items.....

Alok you know what I am a dreamer and have always been so. I am largely driven by my heart, as you know by now. The fast change in pace is really hard to live with. It doesn't give me a nice feeling. With all the polishes, glitzs, glamour in a posh shopping malls, multiplexes or global brands of food joints sometime I find myself lost. The monotony takes over. How I wish to buy thing from small, local shops with the unexpected cordiality of the attendants! Having said this, there is hardly that I can do much about it. More so, because of my gender. I would love to get lost in an unknown world but my parents would be very anxious. I abort the idea thus. All I do is to transfigure good moments, good earthly moments that give me immense pleasure even now. Here I would like to share one story that happened very recently. It felt so much better after the day. Attaching the link. http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/843549/feel_it_love_it_live_it.html?cat=10 Thanks.

It's the dreaming that adds so much into life. Your experiences and thoughts have added so much more meaning to this discussion. And the story that you have written is fabulous and I enjoyed reading it very very much. Thanks for sharing it.

I can 'feel' your emotions. When one lives at a different place, other than his native places, he always misses his roots. He always long for lost connection between him and his roots. A burning desire always remain in his heart to get back to his roots, but for his job or other such thing, he restricts himself. I think, every one who is away from his roots feels the same emotions, however, its intensity may vary. Fortunately, I stay in the city, where I was born and brought up, so I may not able to share my experiences on the issue, because I have none........LOL! Have a great day!

Actually I too have been brought up in a city and have stayed in one throughout my life. The urge and desire to get to the roots comes from the experiences of the previous generation namely my parents. It started with curiosity and then moved on to experiencing of the ways of life, knowing more about the deep rooted cultures and there is so much more. So once in a few years, whenever I get this strong urge I make it a point to travel and enjoy the experience. Other wise it more in terms of cultural get togethers and in the form of articles, photos and experiences that relatives and visitors bring along with them.

I do genealogy and enjoy learning as much as I can about my ancestors and the areas where they lived. This hobby has increased my interest in local history also, and I love learning how people lived back in the earlier times of our nation. It amazes me that people could survive the elements without all the modern conveniences we take for granted now. I can't imagine going through a winter with just a fireplace, for instance, in a log cabin with all the draftiness and no insulation. Living without indoor plumbing or running hot and cold water. That is one of the ways that helps me keep focused and not get lost in the modern age.

The field you pursue of genealogy itself is such an interesting one. It takes you beyond you own roots and into the roots of other people as well. Thanks for responding and have a great day.
