In my country China, there are so many proverbs,we have proverb dictionary, even Chinese people, most of them only know some of it. For example, jing di zhi wa,which means" frogs in the bottom of a well", if you are "a frog in the botton of the well", it means you know nothing about the outside, now it used to describe someone who is blissful in their ignorance, someone who believes that things are perfect merely because they are not considing the bigger picture. So have you heard about it??Tell me some of yours, waiting for your response~~

I don't know if it is proverb or just commons sense I came up with but since my kids were little (and they are just now as parents, understanding why I beat it into them!) I'd tell them "better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it". This was done on things like taking a sweater/jacket to the ball game as it cools off at night. Put it in the trunk or you backpack or tie around your waist. "But it's warm out side" yeah, now it is but come night fall you'll be glad you got it. And if you dont need it, you have a nice soft seat to sit on or just leave it in the car. They are just now as parents themselves of little ones, understanding why I always preached this to them!

In my country there is the proverb that came from a phrase in the Bible (Leviticus,19,18), and used to say it rabbi (jew. religious scholar)akiva. the proverb is - "love your neighbor as your self" - which means You should love others as you love yourself 'cause it easy for you to forgive yourself and love yourself naturally. But it can tell also that people that don't love them self won't love the people around them. I know that not only in the judaism the phrase is known, also jesus used to leave by that rule.
