When you watch your old VHS-recorded off the TV movies...

Do you marvel at the super-old commercials? Commercials that were annoying and overplayed at the time, but now seem nostalgic and quaint? I have on VHS an episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000 and among the commercials is a cheerful ad for WorldCom. Lol! WorldCom went down with Enron, so in retrospect the ad spot is very amusing. In 1989 we taped Mary Poppins and years later we very much enjoyed the Kellogg's Nut'n'Honey Crunch spots, among others. This sort of ads-in-your-tapes phenomenon is of course mostly dead, with DVRs and Tivo, but just pound in Vintage commercials at YouTube and watch what happens!

Too funny. I haven't watched a video tape in a long time. When we taped stuff off TV we were careful to pause the recording at the commercial breaks so I don't think we got any. I love watching the old commercials too...I'm going to check out YouTube now. What I do remember is really bad censoring of movies like Police Academy and The Big Chill which we recorded off TV and watched a million times way back when.

Oops, and yes! Bad censoring is highly entertaining! One of my favorites that STILL gets badly dubbed is Die Hard 2. When the plane is almost landing on Bruce Willis, he yells "SHOOOOOOOOOT! SHOOT!" cause that's what anyone would say.

Teehee. To quote Bill Cosby: "First you say it, then you do it!"
