Spitting on the pavement - probably in a 'hoodie'

If you are 'cool', 'hard' and 'the dood to be seen with', is it compulsory that you must spit on the pavement like a sick dog?
What is it with these people? Or am I missing something here?
If it isn't some vile flem, it's chewing gum!
What do you think about this?

I think spitting is so gross. I don't understand why people do it. My daughter who just turned 3 does rasberries and I hate when she does it. Also she likes to eat her hair. I'm trying to teach her how gross it is but do the parents of those kids ever teach them how gross they are being by spitting all over the place or sticking their gum all over. Reminds me of the commercial where the guy throws his trash all over and the other guy picks it up and puts it on the hood of his car with a note saying you dropped this. If we could do that on peoples car then maybe they would stop. Maybe they need to make a commercial with the gum.

Hi mflower,
One bad influence upon spitting, must surely lay firmly in the hands of professional footballers - how often do you see a footballer launch a huge 'gob full' of spit onto the pitch - not only in front of thousands of people, but knowingly on TV as well.
