love them or hate them an integral part of the game.what i would like is opinions on using video refs as in rugby.also opinions on goal line cameras.

I think that video is a useful tool for refing games. It makes it more objective. In the past, important games have been decided based on poor calls by refs. If everything could be double checked with cameras, this would be fairer to the players and fans.

devref (41)   ranked 4 out of 549 in soccer  1 month ago

fair call clstar but how would you use it.at the players/managers call or the refs.you also have to look at the time aspect for supporters.if this is used bare in mind it could add any amount of time to the game ie the average game with added time is now 94min.if you then add another 30mins for extra time in cup ties as is the norm now then time added for video replay what time of night would your average game finish.then supporters traveling home and have to get up for work in the morning.think it would end up costing the game fans in midweek and puting cost up to cover the loss made by clubs.

Video refs should be used because people like Drogba get away with lots of fouls etc.

devref (41)   ranked 4 out of 549 in soccer  4 weeks ago

ok some do get away with fouls but that also goes for every contact sport out there.so who would call for the "dive" etc bearing in mind the time factor if it was used every time a player/manager thought a foul had been missed then you could probably add at least another hour to the game time.

Its a hot topic that has been brought up many times in the past and im sure will be brought up in the future, personally I think it would be a good thing as it would help get decisions right, decisions which can cost millions to a team if they are wrong and it would also cut alot of the bad out of the game such as diving, off the ball incidents etc, the reason people put against it are it would slow the game down (cant see this myself at it is used in other sports) it would give us less to talk about and we wouldnt all hate Drogba lol

devref (41)   ranked 4 out of 549 in soccer  4 weeks ago

well welshteddy it is a hot topic and as my name suggests i am a ref (local/county games) and was just putting out feelers for what the general opinions are.from the refs point there are good and bad about the video replays.the biggest fear is the abuse of it by players/managers just to hold up play ie get an injured player back onto thier feet and back in play.what i would like is someone to put forward a fair way to use this as no matter what if it is left to players/managers it would be abused.if left to officials it is not going to change much apart from perhaps goal line incidents

Wavever improvement is done the human aspect of the refs must be there in any game if every thing is done by computers then let the game be played by computers...well the technology can assist refs but cant replace them

devref (41)   ranked 4 out of 549 in soccer  4 weeks ago

true but you can bet someone will suggest it at some point

I'd like to see the use of goal line cameras but no more than that as it would slow the game down. It would take forever especially with the amount of moaning faced players that there is. It works for rugby as that is a stop start game and it doesn't impact on the flow of the game which it most definitely would in football.

I definitely hate refs but still accept it is the best way for football.

devref (41)   ranked 4 out of 549 in soccer  4 weeks ago

i am much the same opinion but what have us poor refs done to deserve your hatred

In Scotland the bias towards the old infirm. lol Seriously there is a lot of refs who are too scared to make a decision, not in favour of the larger clubs.

devref (41)   ranked 4 out of 549 in soccer  3 weeks ago

depends on which side of the old firm you follow what answer you would get about bias.i have been to a few as a rangers fan way back in the 70s and have watched a few on the box since and if you work it all down its about even.
having watched the last 10/15 with my refs head under loaf the refs have got about 95%+ correct now a little know bit is they are only expected to get a mark of 7.9 per game any more and people wonder why.any less than 7.4 and they get dropped for a week or two. same marking applies for international refs.and yet to pass the basic refs exam you have to get min78% odd that i think
