I have gotten pretty good at making cookies, decorated ones. and I was wanting some tips on how to go from making them for fun to making a business out of it. How do I advertise , etc. My mom seems to think that when my son has something at school to make some and take into the class and maybe kind of slip it in that I make them all of the time and if they need some I would make some for their parties or whatever. Kind of word of mouth. any ideas ??????

Sounds like a good marketing plan, but most states and cities have health codes that regulate how you cook, where you cook, and all of that stuff. Why not check into your local department of health and see if they have food handling courses for people that want to open their own restaurants, bakeries, etc.? Sounds like a really fun job!

That idea isn't bad. You can also ask at small stores, supermarkets, gas stations, etc. whether they would be willing to sell them for a commission. Bring plenty of samples. Or you can hand out samples around town. There is plenty of ways to get the word and your product out to the people.
But first get all your ducks in a row. You will need to get a business license first. Then you should design proper wrapping and boxing for them. Have contact info on there plus a list of ingredients. There is a lot that goes into a business like that and you really need to make sure that you gather all the info first before you go for it. Word of mouth is good, but brand recognition is important. People should recognize your packaging/name, when they see them. If they know they are good, they will go for them. If you are willing to cater parties with them, not that on the packaging, too;)
