What do you do if an old discussion crops up? |
|
I just saw an interesting discussion from one of my friends that was 8 months old. Now, I'm pretty sure I would have found this discussion interesting 8 months ago and commented on it. There's over 8 pages of responses and I don't really want to go through each page to see if I already responded to this discussion. What do you do? Look to see if you've already responded? Respond now, regardless of if you already responded? Ignore the discussion and not take a chance on responding twice?

1. Transdisc (14431) | 3 months ago | Hello reinydawn:) In the old days, if this situation arose, I would have looked through all of the responses to see if I had already responded because I wouldn't have wanted to risk doing anything wrong. These days, I would simply respond again if the notion struck me. After all, I would know that my friend wouldn't mind hearing from me again, if I had responded before. Also, I doubt that my friend would read through all of the responses to see if I had already responded. The way I see it, if you're supporting a friend or just saying hi, you can't go wrong.

reinydawn (2801) | 3 months ago | Well, how ironic that you are the first to respond - since it was your discussion that cropped up. I wonder if you realized this? I am very tempted to respond, or maybe find out if I did and comment on it... Thanks!

Transdisc (14431) | 3 months ago | HA! I did not realize that you were referring to one of my old discussions and now I'm very curious. It seems that my old discussions are popping up a lot lately. I always like to see what a friend has said.

reinydawn (2801) | 3 months ago | I just put a few 2 cents in - some of those responses were priceless!!! I might have to go spend a couple hours just making comments:) We need a good discussion like that right about now...

reinydawn (2801) | 3 months ago | I've done that before then realized while I was looking through it that I already responded. I did check this one out and I had missed it way back when.

3. barrudaki (944) | 3 months ago | I try to see if I responded before, if not then depending on the subject I might respond. If it is a discussion about a news article from 8 months ago then I probaly won't respond to it.

reinydawn (2801) | 3 months ago | Nah, this one was just an observation. I see what you mean about that though, if the subject matter is old just leave it be.

4. minnie_98214 (3940) | 3 months ago | I have seen many of my old discussions making a come back lately must just be nothing good to respond to out there lately. Me i would just respond and not worry about if they have eight pages of responses chances are they wont remeber if you posted already anyways. plus things change and well your answer may have changed.

reinydawn (2801) | 3 months ago | Yeah, that would worry me that the first time maybe I had a positive response and the second time I had a negative response. It would be like "Who are you really?" I did check on this one and I was safe:)

webeishere (9796) | 3 months ago | Do as a lot of members do Minnie, after responding rate the discussion then you'll see it's been rated if you go back. then you know you've responded already earlier. Hee hee! HAPPY POSTINGS FROM DADDY!!~

5. GardenGerty (14042) | 3 months ago | If you rate the discussion, after your post, then no matter how long ago you did it, It will say rated when you click on it, and then you will know that you either responded to it, or read it, but did not care to respond. That is what I would look for. It is not fool proof. Just last week I responded to one twice, because I did not rate it.

reinydawn (2801) | 3 months ago | I always wondered about that too. I didn't know if the rating went away after a while or always stayed there. Thanks! I almost always rate a discussion that I respond to.

6. webeishere (9796) | 3 months ago | I love seeing older discussions pop up actually. I have had a few of mine show up recently getting responses as well. makes me think back to when I was a newbie of sorts seeing them actually. I always rate each discussion as I respond to it. So if I go back to an older discussion I will know that if it has been rated already then I had responded to it previously. Easy as pie doing it that way. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

reinydawn (2801) | 3 months ago | I never even thought of that - although I try to rate all the discussions I reply to. I'll remember that one from now on - but the old ones might still cause me some problems.

7. KrauseHome (8328) | 3 months ago | Well, I know I have been in the same boat before on here as well. There has even been times that I have gone in to respond to that discussion to find out I have already responded in there as well. What I have been doing for quite a while though is when I respond back to a discussion, I remember to Rate it as I get ready to respond to it. That way it will already say already Rated, so I know I have already responded to that discussion, to where I never respond back to it again. Just a thought and suggestion for you to consider from now on as well.

reinydawn (2801) | 3 months ago | Others have suggested that also, I never even thought if it. I usually do rate a discussion, but an old one I might not have. It's definitely a habit I'm working on.

8. 98765m (786) | 3 months ago | I must admit that I have responded to months old discussions, without knowing it,only coming to know after the response is published.I don't why sometimes, that such a long dead discussion just props up now and then. And whether I respond to it or not, depends on how much that the discussion is fascinating. What do you do?Look to see if you've already responded? And yea,as you have told,I won't be going and checking each page whether I have responded to that discussion or not. Respond now, regardless of if you already responded? Maybe,if the discussion is too fascinating.Just for personal satisfaction. Ignore the discussion and not take a chance on responding twice? I may ignore the discussion. But,it definitely won't be because I am confused whether I have responded to it earlier or not.

reinydawn (2801) | 3 months ago | I try to look right away and see how old the discussion is, but sometimes I do the same thing - post because it's so interesting then realize it's months old. I've realized after posting that I already did respond when the discussion was fresh too.
