Mystery shopping: ever heard of it?

Since march this year I quit my daytime job to be at home with the kids. The paycheck my husband brings in isn't bad, but it doesn't allow much extra's during the month, not if we won't to save something for a rainy day. That's why I started different kinds of side jobs. One of my side jobs is writing on this forum. And another one is mystery shopping. I work for a company that has different mystery shoppers. When a company, like, for example a fast food place wants to know how their employees are doing in the eyes of the customer, they ask Baidata (that's the company I work for) to let someone do a visit. If I get this visit, I'll go to the place, order a meal and check out the employe that serves me, as well as the building. Is everything OK, I will make a positive report afterwards, if it's not, it'll be negative.
Now my question. Who knows the concept of mystery shopping? And who else on this forum has worked as a mystery shopper.

I also work as a mystery shopper... i started two months ago... but i actually applied three years ago... it was only during this year that the company branched out in my country... and we do the same thing... but with the company i am in... there is already a set of questionaire that i will fill out after the visit... and there is a need to pass a certain certification test... but all in all... i love being a mystery shopper... since i get paid for eating out...

I've heard of doing mystery shopping, but I was under the impression that instead of getting any pay for it, the shopper tends to get free items. Which I suppose is good if you need those items- or if you can sell them on eBay later- but I'd rather just get the money direct from companies myself. If it works for you though, then that's great.

Sometimes I don't get paid for the shop, but I will be reïmbursed for something I bought. Last time it was a lingery set. It cost about 50€ (don't know how much it is in dollars) and I could keep it, so they paid me the price of the set. But I didn't get paid extra. But most of the time I get paid for the job.
