Hi! Im not really familiar with the whole online advertising thing but I guess it would be better if you start with the forums. Maybe you are a member of some forums where they allow you to post general discussions and things like that..?also there are some forums that are specifically made for business minded people. They talk about opportunities and existing business both online and offline. I know that there is a Yahoo! Group about this kind of topics. Why not join the group and post about your new business. You can also get some good tips from people who might have been in the same shoes as you. Im not a member of those sites by the way. I just wanted to tell you that I know of such sites. Use classified or forums under announcement sections.

If you are going to promote on forums, be sure to check the popularity of the site to see if there's a lot of traffic coming into that site. You can use alexa.com to see traffic volume or PageRank which is available on Google toolbar.

Once you have determined the popularity of the site you can start posting.

You can try Google Adwords but it may be complicated. Facebook is also a good platform to promote your business. Create a Facebook page and get visitors to your page by using Facebook Social Ads.

There are many ways to promote your business, from using a blog to testing out things like Google adwords.

With a blog you can promote your business, & find "blog-listing" sites that you can post your blog up on to, as well as comment blogs that share a similar interest to the product you're trying to sell. Every little bit helps, truely.

Google Adwords is basically a service that you have to pay for that puts ads on peoples sites that relate to the product you're selling. It's not a guaranteed method but it is one you can start with.

Yet another way is forums. Forums are a very great way to tell people about your business. Just find a few heavily populated forums that allow you to promote stuff, & be active with them for at least a month or so & then let everyone that you've made friends with know about your business & tell them to tell their friends & so on and so forth.

Also, having a good "sales-pitch" for all of these is the best thing you can do. If you come off as a bot people may just ignore you, however if you speak like a normal person would and tone towards the audience you're trying to get to buy your product.
