Madison Square Garden |
|
I have only driven through New York City, when I went to Maine a LONG time ago.
One day, I hope to visit, considering I only live 5 hours away. LOL
I thought this was very interesting about Madison Square Garden and thought it would be interesting for people who live outside the USA to read.
Madison Square is formed by the intersection of Fifth Avenue and Broadway at 23rd Street in the New York City borough of Manhattan. The square was named for James Madison, fourth President of the United States and the principal author of the American Constitution.
The use of "Madison Square" as a name for the neighborhood has fallen off, and it is rarely heard.
Madison Square is probably best known around the world for lending its name to Madison Square Garden, which was a sports arena located just northeast of the park until 1925. The current Madison Square Garden, the fourth such building, is not in the area.
Here is a great website with more history about Madison Square Garden http://en.wikipedia.org/w... thanks to wikipedia!

1. Humbug25 (4101) | 1 year ago | Hi there kimbers867
I am English but did a lot of travelling when I lived and worked as an au pair in New Jersey. I went into NYC quite regularly as it was just an hour or so on the train. I went to Madison Square Garden just the once and that was to see REM which was awesome. I met a lot Americans during my time out there and I had probably seen more of their country than they had!! I love NYC but it was also nice to get back to the peaceful suburbs of NJ.

2. mimico (3257) | 1 year ago | Very interesting! Thanks a lot for sharing this with me. I didn't even know that there was an American president names Madison. I've never been to New York but hope to see a Knicks game at the faous sports arena! I'm a big NBA fan and would love to see a game live when I have the luxury of doing so already. I hope you can post more about where you live. Even without the pictures I'd love to read about the best places to eat, the people, the market, and other interesting tidbits about your area. Thanks.

3. PearlGrace (1883) | 1 year ago | Wow, you are only 5 hours from NYC? Fantastic. There are so many great things there: Tavern on the Green, Wall Street, Broadway and all the musicals and shows, shopping, the Statue of Liberty.
Hope you make a personal vow to get there within the next year or so. It is a wonder, that's for sure. I, myself, would go more often if my husband would go also.
Definitely, put going to New York on your bucket list.

kimbers867 (1233) | 1 year ago | My hubby has no desire to go. He doesn't even like downtown Baltimore, we are only 20 miles from that. LOL
My dream is to see a Broadway show! Maybe one year we can take a bus trip up there, that might be the way he will go.
My brother, when he was younger, spent a couple of New Year's Eves in Time Square.
He now does work in New York occasionally.
He also made a special trip in after 9/11. He said he had to go, so he just took off one day and once he got home he told everyone where he went. The pictures he took were tragic but surreal.

PearlGrace (1883) | 1 year ago | Oh, you must see a Broadway show. It's such a wonderful place to visit and see. I can only imagine what your brother's trip shortly after 9/11 must have been like. That must have been very difficult to see: the city and the pictures.
Hope you plan a trip there soon and enjoy a show.
