What is it about Indiana???  

Evidentally you have roots there that keep calling you back. It must be some kind of a comfort zone for you and your hubby. You must feel like it is some place that you know well enough to regroup whenever things aren't going the way you feel they should.

I know what you mean. I'm not even a native. I grew up in Chicago and was born in Michigan but I moved here to Indiana in 1997. Stayed until 1999, then had the opportunity to move back to Chicago and we lived there almost a year before we ended up back in Indiana!! Now, we have been settled in South Bend for 8 years.

Because everything you really need is in Indiana.
The cost of living is cheaper than most places. The people are generally nice.
And when yer dying for some "culture", Indiana is within driving distance to Chicago, St. Louis, Louisville, Columbus, Cincy, Detroit, etc. But actually, we have alot of great stuff too. Indianapolis Museum of Art is one of the best art museums there are. And I've been to plenty in London, Paris, San Francisco, etc.
We have major league sports teams here, and the Indy 500. We have one of the only like 20-some full time Symphony Orchestras in the US. We have alot of major conventions held here. We have great forests and wildlife.
Indy is like a cozy little burrow that people don't know about.
I've traveled alot, but Indiana is my home. Most places are overrated and overpriced because they're overrated. I've listened to people my whole life go on about how they have to get out of here. Like this place was so dull and holding them back. Funny how most of those people wound up back here.
