Do dogs shed puppy teeth and get adult teeth?

My friend is worried about her three-month-old Jack Russell puppy. It lost all of its front teeth these past two weeks. Do dogs shed their puppy teeth and grow adult/permanent teeth? Or has the poor puppy lost its teeth for good? Please help. Thank you.

They sure do. Tell your friend not to worry about it. What's really scary is when their canines or the big molars in the back fall out! I remember one of my puppies grabbing a toy and having some of those big ones fall out and being a bit freaked.

Yup, just like people. It's probably chewing on things because it's gums itch. Tell your friend to take some old water bottles, fill them up with water, and freeze thim. Voila! Instant puppy teething toy!

What? So even the molars fall out too? So far they haven't, so we thought it will be just the front teeth. But then I guess its just like us, all our baby teeth come out and are replaced by permanent teeth. My friend was worried because the puppy kept trying to bite into hard things like chair legs, the fence, and other things. Maybe it has a toothache too? Hope its not cavities now! Thank you for coming by and take care.

Thank you for your suggestion. It rather surprised me, though. Won't it be too cold for the puppy's mouth? Or maybe that is the intent, to sort of "anesthesize" the puppy's itchy gums? Thank you for dropping by and take care.

Your other post made me smile, imagining myself looking into my dog's mouth every morning to check if she still has her front teeth. But your post was reassuring, thank you for the info and happy mylotting. Take care.

I have a Maltese dog and when she was a puppy, she lost her teeth and grew adults ones. I was scared at first too. I also have a black lab and she didnt loose any teeth! It's strange but I think small/medium sized dogs lose there teeth and grow adult sized ones. Good luck with the puppy, Jack russells are adorable.

Yes, the puppy is adorable. She's a real part of my friend's family. She wakes the children up in the morning, greets my friend when she comes home from work, and even sulks when she is scolded. I am actually envious. Thank you for the info, I'll tell my friend coz she is worried. Happy mylotting and take care. I adore black labs too.
