Since the little ones are always wanting to help me cook, I came up with a neat meal for us to enjoy. Keep in mind that everytime a child is helping you cook, they think every task is important.... ok let's move along... Ages 10, 8, 6 Goal: Onion Rings Assignments: 8 year old: Whisk 1 1/2 cups of milk with 5 eggs in bowl * Whisk until completely yellow 10 year old:(batter) * in another bowl, add 2 cups flour, 1 cup corn meal * add egg milk mixture from 8 year old * whisk until no lumps 6 year old: in another bowl * add 2 cups flour, a heap of paprika *knead with hands until well mixed, should be red/brownish in color (caution 6year to go slow or you'll have flour everywhere... lesson learned) Together: Set Station: 6 year old: bring over bowl with sliced onions 8 year old: bring over flour / paprika mix 10 year old: bring over batter Adult: bring over empty pan In turn, we each dip an onion ring into the batter then the flour mix. Only to place the battered and floured ring onto empty pan. Repeat until all onions have been prepared. Adult: set deep fryer to 375 or so. Fry until golden brown. Let cooked rings sit about 5 minutes before serving. Together: Sit back, enjoy the onion rings. Adult: Giggle to self as children brag about how well they cook onion rings. Repeat when needed. Enjoy!

My kids enjoy helping me in the kitchen as well. It gives us a chance to spend time together, and they get a kick out of being able to say I cooked dinner.

Yes, that's the cool part. Kids walking around with their chests all poked out like they rule the world. All because of a hot meal they helped out with.

Hi, i like to play with kids. It's really a good chance that we can play with kids which never bores or never hates any body while playing even we will forget to eat. Really it's a fun food for us while playing with kids.

I know exactly what you mean. Many times we look at the time and notice that we missed the time slot for a meal. For me that is not a problem, but with the little ones, it's good to keep them on some sort of schedule or routine for basic needs. This way we can play and eat without a care, although even still you have to pace it in such a way that the completed meal is done around the slotted eating time. Okay, I admit sometimes that is even a challenge, depending on what we cook. Like egg rolls the other day. lol We missed that mark by alot, hahaha.

My girls all want to be chefs when they get older. I figured daddy would show them how it works close hand. The difficult part is cooking things that they all can help out in. Using this method I can get them to eat just about anything, My 8 year old has fallen in love with green bell peppers. The other two love brocolli.

That's pure fun. Another good way of involving the children in kitchen activity. I like that. Thanks for sharing.

anytime... It's good to see the basics still work for keeping kids busy away from TV. But it is hard in a world of electronics and Hanna Montana.
