Did you lose a parent to disease as a child?

This could be a loaded question, I know. I am wondering who lost their parent as a child due to disease or accident or anything that caused them to die. I am not talking about parents walking out on the family (that is a whole different topic). My mother died of cancer when I was 11. It will be 15 years this October, and that in itself seems unreal. I am wondering what other people have experienced.
