My chldren say that if anything can be repaired then I am the woman.I have had a lifelong habit of either sewing, glueing or sticking things together ,so that they do not have to be thrown away!!You name it..from sewing up burst seams in school bags to sticking the odd shoe sole!!!..but it is a habit that I cannot shake off...do you repair things,or do you just throw them away and replace them?

When my mother and Mrs P1ke first met Mum said that she was pleased that I was being taken off her hands (I'd lived on my own for well over 10 years in fact) and that Mrs P could darn my socks now. My Mum was a great darner. My lovely wife replied that life was too short and if my toe protruded then it was time for a new pair. However, her mother was also a dab hand with glue, cotton etc. I am afraid that we tend to throw broken or ripped stuff away. Disgraceful really. But that's the consumer society. I'm listening to Maurice Chevalier singing that he glad he's not young any more. Gigi I think.

The Boss was watching the TV in the other room. I mylot and computer generally in blissful silence. But the women in my life like a little noise. Boyzone and Westlife? I'm 50 not 15!! Now Genesis, Alice Cooper or Jethro Tull and we're talking my language. Beethoven, Faure and Vivaldi too. I sometimes think that my mum would like me back. "When are you coming to see us" she cries. I go up at least once every three weeks for at least two days at a time. Still, better than not wanting me to go and they're not bad old souls. LOL. Unfortunately my MIL is collecting her rubber bands up above now. But yes, I think that you would have got on well with her. She was a retired teacher, Smoked her head off. Life revolved around cups of tea and crafts were her big passion apart from the family. I loved her. But she was a nutty as a fruit cake. That's probably why. LOL.

Maurice Chevalier!!!blimey I had you down more as a Boyzone or a Westlife sort..but never Maurice..I tried having the radio on while I was Mylotting last night, but I cant multitask !!the radio was completely throwing me,now I know that that doent take a lot,but....OK lets talk socks...yes I can darn,I have lost my mushroom ,but I assure you that I can darn, albeit none too special..but your mum in law sounds like a woman after my own heart.I bet she saves all of her rubber bands too!!I save all of mine,I use them for allsorts!!and the other day I was in raptures ,I found a mnassive paper clip on the floor outside,I knew I had a use for it ,so I stuck it straight into my pocket, there and then,no messing. But im just thinking here,I bet that you poor Mum was sooo pleased that Mrs Pp came along and swooped you...

I do not repair things no, I am one for just getting as much use out of it as possible and then replace it with a new one. I do occasionally do some sewing, but it is very occasional!

A good philosophy there Rose,if we were all like that the big companies would all hate us because their sales would go down!but ive sewn for donkeys years and its something that I love doing, but the problem is that by the time ive seen to all that needs seeing to in a day and then spent time with Mum and been on this ere computer ,well lol it doesnt leave a lot of time!!and a while ago I used to like to stay up late and twiddle about, but now im finding im tired and I just cant do it!!but you know my Father he was a wonderful make do and mend man,and he used to sole our shoes himself,I think that I got a lot of my traits from him,he was a very clever man and he taught me a lot of lessons in life.

If the things still have a chance to be repair then I am one of the person that have to do things better from sewing the clothes of my children, sticking and gluing the things like figurine if it is still fine and if it is not usable already then I have to trow it.......
