music for studying

Oh I love music but I used to find it a distraction while studying, in my student days.
However, the urge to listen to it was so much that often I'd put on just 'soft' music, in the hope it wouldn't distract me overmuch and I don't think it ever did!

Today I find almost all students putting on loud and different types of music and swearing that they cannot study without having it on.
It's a matter of belief, I suppose, that music would distract.
I wonder whether it really does!

I'm one of the rare people that can not study without distraction, quietness takes away my concentration so i always listen to music when studying or even when i'm responding to discusions here on mylot.
