 i hate it when you are watching tv and when it goes to commercials it BLARES out sound louder than the show.. and i also hate it when you flip through channels on tv and each channel is on a different volume!! my dad claims that there used to be a law or something against that when tv first came out but OBVIOUSLY that isnt the case anymore!! anyone else driven crazy by this?? do you think they will ever make an option on a tv to where it makes all sound the exact same level?? i would LOVE that!! i watch tv while my hubby sleeps and i never know while flipping through the channels if i am gonna wake him up

oh yeah, that is completely annoying alright. i hate that. i remember when i was working for a local cable company, our head-end technicians would really make sure that everything is modulated because my boss (the owner of the company) hates it when he surfs channels and the other channel is so much louder that the other. he knows that there are other people who care about that too.
but ever since he sold his company to a national player, the quality also diminished. too bad.
but yeah, i don;t like that too. i get jumpy because i get shocked when the sound volume suddenly changes.

| 2. Vladilyich1 (697) | 1 month ago |  Believe it or not, it really isn't louder; it just SOUNDS that way. I was a television engineer for quite some time. There's a device we used called a compander (compressor-expander) that compresses the sound in such a way that it sounds louder, but the peaks are still the same as the program.

| Vladilyich1 (697) | 1 month ago | The sound is compressed and pushed up near the upper limit. To my knowledge, it is still illegal to actually boost the sound above a certain level. I just sounds to the human ear like it is louder. If you were to look at it electronically, you'll see that the peaks are the same, but the valleys are much higher. | |

 Ruthep (2827) | 1 month ago |  I would think it would be under set-up. That was a couple tvs ago so I don't quite remember. The newer ones might not even have that. I would think so though.
Maybe it would be under volume. I just don't quite remember. All I know was it was called smart sound. So if you see that than you just turn it on or off.

I don't care if it's only temporary, my head just can't take that noise!!!! | |
