So here I am in Tasmania, Australia and I'm a active geocacher. And I'm wondering if anyone else does geocaching and if so where are you. Let me know.

The best way I have heard Geocaching described is using a mulit-million dollar military satalite system to find tupperware in the woods. The more tradional response is that people like me use a hand held gps to located and hide small containers in secret locations for others to find. It's a cross between orienteering and treasure hunting. If you look at www.geocaching.com you can see what the basic idea is. But let me be a little more descriptive. I take my gps and go find a spot, let's say under a bush in a local park, somewhere not easily spotted without looking and I mark the Longitude and Latitude. One I have done that I submitted that for approval, makeing sure there aren't any others in the area. I then leave a little container, usually a small tupperware box filled with small toys and trinkets, and a log book, and I release it Then others like me, log into the website and download the info into our gps and we go hunt it down. Each person who finds the box then log's their entry in the log book I have provided and then again on the website for others to see. If you like hiking and just having a reason to do something totally time wasting then this is for you.

That's cool. I love hiking and GPS. I didn't know that it exists. It could enahnce one's GPS skills. I don't see it done 'round here in my area but the idea seems fun. It's some sort of a treasure hunting game.

I am having a good time here in Tasmania, And no Geocaching doesn't have anything to do with kangaroo's but I did get a good laugh at that one. If you look at my first response I have left a proper explanation and you can go to www.geocaching.com for more info. Let me know if you get involved. I also have a blog I'm running so if you are interested in following my exploits I can post you a link
