Study shows that lifestyle poses the risks of contracting diseases such as Alzheimer's, Dementia in old age. Here are some dietary tips that can help us keep our brain sharp as we increase in age:
1. Eat APPLES. Fresh apples have high concentrations of quercetin, an antioxidant that may fight the damage done by free radicals to brain cells.
2. Eat BROCCOLI. Broccoli is high in folate that if in high concentration in the blood showed less decline in verbal fluency.
3. Eat Oily FISH. They are high in DHA, an omega 3 fatty acid found in mackerel, salmon and sardines that reduces by 70% the build up of blood plaques that are a hallmark of the disease.
4. Drink ALCOHOL but in MODERATION that is. A US study on older women found that those who reported have one or two drinks a day had a 40% lower risk of cognitive decline than those who claimed to drink nothing. Can you believe that? But as I have said, IN MODERATION.
