I just "found" a mature pecan tree and peach tree on my property!

I was out watering my newly-planted bushes, trees and flowers when I noticed "things" growing on two mature trees outside. One of them I actually thought was an overgrown weed!!! I have a pecan tree near the beginning of our driveway and a peach tree (get this!) right outside our bedroom window!!!
I was going to cut down the "overgrown weed" because it keeps brushing against the screen when it's windy outside. I was looking at it from the bedroom window when I saw what looked like a baby peach growing on it. I went outside and this thing is loaded with them!!!
I can't imagine anyone actually planting a peach tree one foot away from the house so maybe a squirrel buried a peach pit there and forgot about it.
I had to look up the other tree. I thought it was walnut at first, but they are round and smooth when unripe. These had four 'sections'. Yep, it's a pecan tree!
Have you moved to a new place and "discovered" things like this growing on your property that you didn't know about? It's so exciting! Well, if you love gardening like I do, it is. If you have, what did you find? Have you eaten any of it? I'd love to hear more stories like this. It's like finding buried treasure! Please share!

OMG I'd love to have a peach tree next to my house. It's possible somebody was walkin around the house eatin a peach then dropped it & not payin attention stepped on it pressin it into the ground. Peach pits sprout fairly easily.
I moved into a house many years ago that had a beautiful white rose bush. My next door neighbor had a beautiful red rose bush. The first summer after I moved in my white roses has tiny red spots on them. Tiny like the tip in a pin. By the second summer there were definite red splotches. By the third summer I had red roses with white spots. I found it interesting to watch the transformation over the years. I would have liked to visit the next summer to see what had transpired but I had moved far enough away it wasn't feasible.
Where I live now there was a scupernong bush growing. Every spring I get little suckers popping up in a 3 foot radius of the bush. I really should get out there in the spring & transplant a few of them. This year it was way too dry for them to live & I don't like killing any living thing.

That is fascinating about those rose bushes! I'd better keep an eye on mine, now. I have both red and white rose bushes, and I like them that way. I guess I should go out and give them a good talking to before they start getting "friendly".
I've never heard of scuppernongs, so I looked them up. They sound delicious! I've always lived in the mid-Atlantic region and I suppose they just don't grow around here. We have wild grape vines, but I have yet to have ever seen a grape on them!
I did plant grapes this year. I don't think they grow suckers.
But my blackberry bushes are shooting up all over the place now and I just planted them last year! I can't wait to get enough of them to make blackberry jelly!!!
I am very much like you in that I can't kill any living thing... with the exception of a few types of bugs. I've "saved" plants from stores that looked like they were on their last legs, asked if I could dig up suckers from lilac bushes of neighbors who would have just mowed them down, etc.

I think it was the bees cross polinating the roses & our bees seemed to have disappeared. I had 2 years of beautiful mottled roses. I was always interested it they ever turned back white after a few years or if the red totally took over. I did enjoy sitting on my porch & watchin them bloom to see what I was getting. I love watching nature reveal itself before my very eyes. Unfortunately, a 10 hour drive to look at a rose bush was not feasible. Oh I forgot to say, the neighbor's red roses were turning white as my white roses were turning red.
Scuppernongs are extremely delicious...very sweet They do nothing until about late August or early September then you can't pick them fast enough. I think the suckers came from the seeds that fell to the ground from the ones I never got picked. Scuppernong jelly is another tasty treat. Can't think of anything better than hot buttered toast with scuppernong jelly for breakfast. Only comforting fact is I've only got one month before they arrive (smiling)

Wow! You are very lucky indeed! I hope you like peaches and pecans!
It is wonderful, especially nowadays when food is so expensive. At least you can have pecans and peaches!!! How big is the peach tree? Do you think you could dig it up and move it away from your house so it doesn't mess with your foundation?
You have got to post some photos of your new finds!!

The tree is too big to relocate easily.
I will probably end up cutting it down since it is SO close to the house, but not until I reap the rewards this year!
I planted two peach trees last year and they're doing quite well, but they're still very young. I should get some peaches next year, though.
The pecan tree is in a great location. It's already pretty tall... VERY tall, actually. There are hundreds of unripe pecans on it. I can't wait!
Yep, I love peaches and pecans. My son is crazy about pecan pie, so he's really psyched about it.
I'll also be canning peaches and making peach pies! Yummy!!!
I've been really busy the past few days because I'm going out of town today until Thursday and I had to get ready for the trip, plus make my husband plenty to eat while I'm gone. He's the type who won't eat it if he can't just pop it into his mouth. LOL BUT, as soon as I get back, I'll take pictures and post them.

We have a volunteer peach tree that is producing good fruit. I just started a discussion about it, and through looking at discussions, I found yours. Fruit and nut trees are so great. My grandmother had lots of volunteers that helped feed her entire family and guests for years.

Well, with the exception of wild blackberry and raspberry bushes, I've had to plant everything else myself. I planted all kinds of fruit trees and nut trees, strawberries, kiwis, blueberries, asparagus, a large and still growing herb garden and the annual veggie garden.
I've also planted inedible things like roses, lilacs, privacy bushes, bamboo (well, I'll be eating some of the shoots from that), and tons of perennial flowers.
I had the initial impression that nothing grew here but weeds! It was so nice to find those two mature trees, since all my other trees were either planted last year or this year and are still quite small. The trouble is that I planted two other peach trees last year! I'm going to be overrun with peaches! LOL

O.k. first I am so jealous! Second to answer your question yes we were clearing an old piece of land we used to own when we found this neglected pepper plant. I don't know the name of the peppers but they were really little and and hot as H E L L . My hubby loved them and made saving that plant his personal mission. When we left it was huge and very full. We were very sad to find out that the new owners let it dye.
Congrats on the great finds.
