I not too sure when i say this but im sure you may be better off trying to find another venture ,as money is very tight at the moment and peopeare making so many cut backs,im sure even the E bayes are finding it so,and the Ebay listing fees arent cheap, and by the time you have paid your fees, and send your goods, you may find the profit margin quite small, but if you go ahead well good luck.

Now is probably the worst time you could open an ebay store.
Ebay have made some dramatic changes to their site and the majority are for the worse, they are trying to get rid of hobby sellers so they have got a site full of buy it nows from businesses.
I have one or two things up on ebay at the moment and they have no more than 2 watchers, when i used to sell the same things i would have 20+ and i am convinced that my auctions are not appearing in all the searches so i am loosing out on bidders which in turn means i will get less back for the items, this is exactly what ebay wants because once the hobby sellers get fed up of this they have won and will be able to finally do what they want to do but at the moment they are still happy taking our fee's for our auctions, if i were you i would find a different venue to sell your things on, try another auction site or try selling them locally.
ebay is a bit of a disaster right now.

The best time would probably be around September or October. Although listing fees are getting pretty expensive, I know Ebay is offering discounts to the sellers. I don't really know if they charge more if you open a store. Why not just post them instead? Plus, you have to think of the things that would really sell (and that aren't too expensive). You'd get more profit in the long run by being able to sell more.

I think now would be the time. Quite a few of my firends have already begun their holiday shopping and they are doing a lot of bargain hunting. I had an eBay store and closed it after about 16 months. Does eBay have a minimum amount of time that you need to keep the store open for or will you be able to close it after the holidays, if you choose to?
Good luck with your eBay venture
