In today's society, age has a big affect over jobs, and other things. I feel that since I'm the youngest of all my co workers (by atleast almost 5 years, my boss by 15 years) that I am given lesss responsibility because they believe because I am young Im not as capable as others. It doesnt matter if I've been working there longer then others, I still do the same old stuff while they have alot more responsibility. Do you think age should be a factor when it comes to certain things? Or do you think that people should be given a fair chance beside their age? Give me your opinions.

Age definitely shows maturity based on the experiences you've been through. The older you get the more knowledge you get too. The people who worked for years, they do have more experience. They know how the business works, who's the client and what they prefer and many more. So for them to not giving you too much work is just their way of don't think you're ready yet. Observe how they work and learn more and maybe offer yourself in doing something that you can gain more experience. If you;re still young, take it slowly, you wouldn't want to get bored of your job.
best of luck!

I've been there for a while and Im just as qualified as the people who have been there for years. Its not a hard job. I just know that since I am young and only have a work relatinship with them that my responsibilty is different then others. There are more factors to my job thanjust age (everyone else but me go to the bars after work with eachother) im probably more mature and responsible then most of them there, because they gossip and party like they;re back in higschool while I step up to the plate. In my case, its age discrimination. I dont think age has anyhthing to do with what you're capable of. There are alot more 18 year olds with more maturity, qualifications, and responsibilty, then alot of 25 year olds or more out there. In some cases, not really, but we dont get as much credit as we deserve sometimes.

Yes,age will affect maturity/responsibility level but mainly at the youthhood when people start to form their own philosophy of life and social. After that, age may not do any big change ,basicly it's the accumulation of experiences. So according to what you said,I think you have reached a maturity level to take big responsibilities and that has not much to do with age.Sometimes, other people may have misjudgements, what you need to do is to step forward and show your talents.

In some cases, there are younger employees who have proven that they are even more responsible than the more senior ones. I'd rather give more responsibility to a younger employee whom I can trust to do the work well than an older one who is less dependable.

I'd say that age has an effect on everyone's job performance, but not in the way most people would think. most people assume that young people are not responsible (as you said) but I myself have been very responsible. For several years now i was the second youngest person at work, and after a short while many of the much older guys were coming to me for help with certain types of problems. mostly I didn't have trouble answering them, and it was because of my age. Some of the older guys did fine with some of the older computers but just couldn't get how the windows stuff worked, so I got a bit of a reputation for knowing computers. heck, there were guys that couldn't even do the DOS stuff. no prob there for me either. so, to answer your question, age is a factor, but it all depends on how you use your age. it can be an asset or a hinderance. I still have trouble getting managers to trust my ideas just because of how young I am, and they may not be familiar with my work history (the company I work for is constantly changing out managers) but they soon learn that I'm actually pretty good at what I do. and that's probably more than you really cared to read, but its my answer :)
