Cell phones why must people drive in cars like they are glued to their heads? | | Whenever I am out driving it seems at least every other car has one, like it's a life or death thing to talk on? And lots of them are kids. My mom sees kids talking or texting on cell phones just to say hi, what are you doing?
Gee must be nice to be rich enough to just throw away your parents money that you are wasting on useless conversation. We do have real phones that don't cost anything to call someone.
I understand if one is used for a real emergency or like a car accident. But where I live seems most near accidents are caused by cell phone drivers who are not able to drive and pay attention at the same time.
I don't and have never had a cell phone, my finacee and i if we did would only be used for emergencies but we have discussed other ways, walkie talkies or pagers.
who wants a brain temor, raise your hand while you can, or gee didn't your brain tell you to do that? hmmmm
People have become too spoiled by many of the so-called modern technologies, and i am not old. I love my microwave, my new flat screen tv...totally flat. But sheesh try and weene yourself off some of it.
Nothing is worth your life or others.

| | | | | | | | 1. plunketear (1224) | 1 year ago | There was a study done in Canada regarding cell phone use while driving. They found that hands-free systems where almost JUST as attention grabbing/distracting as nonhands-free use. The only difference being that in terms of peripheral, the hands-free was just slightly safer. The whole theory behind cell phone use while driving is that in order to carry on a conversation, your brain is trying to multitask in a such a way that it is unaccustomed to. They found that there seems to be two sides of the fence here. One side is constantly processing your environment while you are driving, the other putting yourself into the conversation on the phone. At least if you have a conversation with someone that is there with you in the car, they are at least sharing the same environment which makes a huge difference to the driver's ability to make sound and quick judgements/reactions. Plus there are 4 eyes that better have the ability to see and say "watch out!"
Texting? Now THAT is a whole other ballgame altogether. Most accidents happen when people are trying to enter or scan their contact list phone number. So multiply that, times the constant you have with texting, being that your eyes are almost always off the road and the task at hand, which USED to be driving!!! Now the driving has, by default, become an incidental inconvenience! It's mind boggling that the entire nation doesn't REALLY COME DOWN HARD on cell phone use (of any kind) while driving. Right across the board. The reason though is that we are a selfish nation who think we can have our cake and eat it too. Progression in technology with anti-lock brakes and interactive skid control systems etc etc etc all mean nothing if the idiot behind the wheel is driving/throwing the entire system into a smelter. The only time we will ever be totally safe from ourselves is when we pull the human element right out of the equation, with these radar devices that have technology buried into the road. Each vehicle has it's own computer which 'sees' the road and each vehicle around itself and they all interact with each other constantly. They know each other's speed, when to brake, how to pace a set distance between each vehicle etc etc etc. The 'drivers' could almost sit and have a nap with their hands and feet off the controls. It's coming!
