Someone clue me in, who is Russell Brand?

I saw an ad for the VMAs the other night while channel surfing. The ad stated the person hosting the VMAs would be Russell Brand. Now I thought that the VMAs were a huge deal and they always enlisted a "big" name to host the event. I have never heard of Russell Brand, have you?

Nah, I am from the US. Until now I have never seen or heard of him; I have asked a bunch of people of varying ages and they have never heard of him either.

I think the Russell Brand they may be referring to is a brand of athletic clothing, that is pretty common on the west coast. Not like Nike or anything big, but pretty common at any sporting goods store.

Haha my bad, I thought you said sponsoring, and didn't read enough of your post. And yeah, the other guy has it right, that is the Russel Brand they are talking about. Whoops! Haha

He is a British comedian who is very popular over here.
My 15 and 16 year old sons think he is great they find him very funny.
I have to admit that i find him amusing at times as well.

I had only vaguely heard of him before he hosted the VMAs nothing to much. I thought they he was horrible as the host for the awards. MTV could have gotten a way better host for the awards then him in my opinion. I don't think that it was completely Russells fault for this years VMAs sucking but more MTV. I didn't really like any of the performances except for Kid Rock but hes always good. I really didn't like the fact that Britney won most of the awards I honestly don't think she was should have won the awards she did.
Anyways it would have been a lot better if a more well know person hosted but Russell didn't do to bad of a job I guess. Most of the people watching the VMAs are in the united states. I just dont understand why MTV would pick someone that's mainly a famous British comedian...?
