In recent series, what difference exists betwen Indian team & Srilankan team?

The recent closely fought test series made people to get tempted to call it the Asian Ashes. Also it is well known that Sri lankans are kings in their own backyard. thats why some newspaper gave the headlines "India enters lion's den" when India landed in Sri lanka.
With all these factors remaining and the series just concluding, what factors do you feel differentiates one team from the other. Of course sri lanka emerged as the winner and they proved they are a superior team. No questions on that.
What factors in Sri lanka make them a superior bunch? What factors made India an inferiror bunch against the Sri lankans?
Is Mendis factor such an important factor? Or Is he the only factor?

the main reason is that indians lacks consistency if they win in one game we cant be sure for the next game this has been the problem for a quite long time and the team is not learning from it.mendis has bowled very well even having lot of experience for
our so called cricket giants could not solve the mystery of mendis. ofcourse srilanka plays well in its country but we have beaten them in the past. absence of dhoni had also had an impact on the middle order
