Now my brother has a staff infection!

Bless his heart he can't seem to win for losing. He saw a bump under his arm a few days ago but didn't think anything of it. He said it looked like a pimple or bite of some kind. Nothing came of it for a few days but then this morning there were four more bumps and it just didn't look right. The doctor said it was a staff infection but they had caught it in time and all he needed was medication. He isn't supposed to do much the next few days so he doesn't risk spreading it, has to wash all clothes and bedding, and only use body wash instead of soap so he doesn't reinfect himself. I sure hope it clears up and everything is fine. Staff infections are nothing to play around with!

The poor thing! I feel so bad for him! You are very correct about staph infections being nothing to play around with! I've seen (on medical shows) too many that have gotten way out of control and sometimes end up with amputations or losing large chunks of themselves! It sounds like your brother is being very wise in taking the doctor's advice! Life has a way of moving in cycles so, hopefully, your brother will be on the upswing soon! I will keep him in my thoughts and wish him the best. Keep us posted!

Thank you for the good thoughts. I sure hope he gets some good luck and a break soon. He needs one. Life just keeps piling up on him.

I'll try to remember and let him know people are thinking about him and wishing him the best. He is 33 years old, two years younger than me.

Let him know that he has friends here at myLot who care for him and wish him well. Sometimes knowing that there are more people who care about you than you thought helps to have and keep a more positive attitude. How old is your brother? I'm just curious.

I once worked in a hospital and couldn't believe everything they did to prevent patients from getting staph infections. I understand they can be quite dangerous if not caught in time. I did not realize that using bar soap was not the most sanitary way to bathe. I wonder if we should switch to body wash rather than bar soap. Anyway, that is good that your brother sought medical care right away, which is something not everyone does when they notice a change in their bodies. Hope he takes it really easy for as long as the doctor suggested. I wish him a speedy recovery.

Thank you. I see that I spelled staph infection wrong. I know how it's spelled too. Do you ever do that? Just have a brain fart on spelling? I hate when it happens. Especially on here becasue you can't go back and fix it. I have heard of lots of people getting staph infections after being in the hospital.

Boy, do I ever make spelling errors in my myLot posts! I am usually typing way too fast and end up hitting the "post response" button before I look it over. I don't like the fact that we can't spell check our responses but I know other people have already made that suggestion to myLot. Yes, staph is, unfortunately, a common thing in hospitals. Even so, I don't really understand why/how it's transmitted.

I think a spell checker on the post would be great! I've seen some post on here talking really bad about people who make spelling errors. I don't think that's good. It's most likely what you said, people just get in a hurry.

You are right. Staff infections are nothing to play with. we have a good friend who just got out of the hopstial because of one and can not go back to work for a whole month. He was in the hopital for ten days and we almost lost hime. It all started with what looked like a bug bite but it was a staff infection. I hope your brother recovers fromit quicly. They are often very resitant to antibiotices. He has been through enough all ready.

Thank you. He really has! He said it seems like one thing after another all the time lately. He's still doing good so far. I have a friend that is getting over a staph infection also. She still doesn't know where she got it, but was in the hospital for two weeks and is still not supposed to do much. It really is serious. I hope your friends ok now.
