Cherries the natural pain killer, Yes I did say cherries. |
| |
| Recently upon reading a book called 101 food that could save your life I found out that Cherries are a natural pain reliever. This is due to two plant pigments in cherries that black and enzyme (cox-2)believed to cause pain. Cherries contain many good things for us. They contain vitamins A,C and the b's along with minerals such as calcium, iron, and potassium and they have fiber. Beta-sitosterol, a plant sterol that has been likned to lower blood cholesterol levels, and anthocynanins give the cheery it red color and may also reduce inflamation and pain. The quercetin in the cherry may help prevent heart disease and the amygdalin may reduce tumor growth and size. This isn't all this amazing fruit can do. the Ellagic acid may fight bacterial infection and also cancer. Perillyl alcohol is an antioxident that may have anti tumor activity . Now I know we usually only eat the sweet cherries but the sour cherries also have a place to the have more phenolic compounds than sweet cherries and thaey are a natural source of free radical scavengers called superoxide dimutase(sod). HEADACHE- Eating 20 cherries a day may reduce headaches.. (michigan State university) HEART HEALTH- A study done on men and women found that eating Bing cherries decreased certain blood markers of heart disease. DIABETES- Anthocyanins in the tart cherries were found to increase insulin production in animal pancreatic cells by fifty percent. SLEEP - Tart montmorency cherries are rich in the antioxidant melatonin, which may help in promoting sleep. Now after all that information I'll give you a quick recipe to help you out on your cherry adventure. cherry oatmeal bake 1/2 c dried tart cherries 1/2 c quick oats 1/4c agave syrup 1/2 tsp. salt 2 c. skim or soy milk 1/4 c. egg substitue 1/2 tsp. almond extract. directions: combine cherries, oats, agave syrup, and salt in a medium bowl. Stir in milk, egg substitue, and almond extract. Spray four 10 ounce custard cup with nonstick cooking spray. Divide mixture evenly between the cups. place filled cups on baking sheet. Bake in preheated 350 degree oven for 30 to 40 minutes or until centers are slightly soft serve warm. So after reading all this have you decided to up your cherry intake? What do you think about the benefits of cherries? Did you already know about the benefit of cherries? | | | | | |

| | It is a pity that we can only have it in spring. Usually I buy cherries for my wife who love it very much. I don't have it because it is so small and I like big fruits such as peach. I will buy more cherries and try to share cherries with my wife next spring. | | | | | | |

| | Yes I remember reading about cherries a while ago. The thing I remember is that they said to eat a bag of cherries a day to get rid of gout - I remembered that as I knew someone who had had gout but had to take lots of drugs to get rid of it. I will try and eat more cherries - I think it is better to eat them fresh than cooked to get the nutrients from it though. Even though they will taste lovely cooked, especially in your nice recipe! | | | | | | |

| | I'm very sorry Bella. I have to differ with you. Cherries can cause immense pain. Let me tell you a story. When I was a boy we lived in a cul de sac. At the top of the road there was a bungalow with the most beautiful cherry trees that in summer ripened sweet, red, juicy fruit. However, the people that lived in the house were not exactly delighted that the children in the road wanted to relieve them of their crop and used to dissuade us from knocking the cherries down by shouting and chasing us off. So we got wise. I was sent up the tree to remove as many ripe cherries as I could. Whilst down below someone caught them in a basket. Up I went and down came the cherries. So vigorous was I that I fell out of the tree too. Hurting myself quite badly as I fell. From out of his house came the owner who promptly picked me up and escorted me home to my mother. She set about my backside with her wooden spoon once she heard the story. No Bella, cherries do not relieve pain. Just cause it! LOL. | | | | | | |
