When you lost money do you go back along the road trying to find it?

I ever lost 2000yuan (250$) when I did some shopping. I told it to my wife. My wife advised me to go back and try to get it back. I believed it was no use because others will pick up the money and take it away. But my wife insisted. Then I went back along the road I did shopping. When I entered a shop and asked about it. The boss hold the 2000yuan out and gave it back to me. I gave part of the money to thank him and persuade him to accept. He was really honest.

I think it depends on the situation. For example, when you lost a 1 dollar bill in Beijing then you're on your way home in Canada, then there's no point of going back there just to get that single buck.
An opposite reaction will apply if you misplaced a briefcase full of money or in your case, you lost $250, which is already worthy to come back for.
