Need answers quickly! I am in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. There is a hurricane coming and maybe a tornado. What are some ways to get prepared for it? High winds and hard raining are already here. Those are some signs of a hurricane or even a tornado.

goldendcici hi. Is this your first hurricane? If it's almost upon you and you didn't take any precautions, well - here's some things that help survive hurricanes. Depending on the category and the severity, and it's too late to leave your home, get into the middle of the house, a closet or a bathroom. somewhere without windows. You need batteries and plenty of flashlights because you might lose power. If you didn't buy water yet, you will probably have to boil your water before you use it. I don't think anyone in Florida drinks the water, anyway. Next time, you might consider boarding up your windows, or using criss-crossed duct tape. Make sure you have canned goods in your house, and a can opener that works without electricity. You need a portable radio that works on batteries to follow the storms progress. Stay away from the windows and doors! When the storm is over, if you're allowed to go out, watch out for downed power lines and trees. The trees get ripped out because Florida doesn't have dirt, it has sand. Sometimes the hurricanes cause no damage and everything will be fine. Let us know if you're okay, but get into the center of your house if it's headed your way! Good Luck.

You should be away from windows or door. The best place is basement. If there is no basement you can conceal yourself in the corner. If you are outdoor, be away from trees and electric poles and lay on lowland. Don't stay in your car because it can't protect you if the hurrican come.
