Food allergies can kill a dog just like it could kill a human.
Odds what your dog is allergic to is the chemicals and dyes in the food. You should tray an all natural or organic dog food. My MIL swears by science diet and I know that there is a all natural dog food made by them.
If you buy a allergen free dog food and she still has a reaction, you may want to look into making her food.

ive tried different ones that says natural, etc. someone recently found one that was supposedly natural called nutro system that made dogs sick. maybe i'll try online.

Nutro Naturals isn't really "all natural". Something else you can try is organic dog food. Organic would have no dyes, and on real USDA organic meat & veggies. Most also do not use wheat, soy or one other things that is know for the most common food allergies.

I think you should look into high quality brands, preferably organic. High quality brands include Orijen, Innova, Innova EVO, Eagle Pack, Taste of the Wild, James Wellbeloved and Canidae. I personally feed James Wellbeloved because it's hypoallergenic and free from many ingredients that cause food intolerances (no artificial colors, flavours or preservatives). My dog loves it, it's actually the only food he will eat and does great on it. There are also smaller bags of this food. The high quality brands do cost more, but since it's so high quality the dog will eat less of it than she would need to eat from a low quality food so it lasts longer. In the long-run it pays well off to feed a high-quality food.

your right it would probably be cheaper as it would cut down on vet bills and meds.

I'd say talk to your vet and/or check out organic foods. They're more expensive but many of them are much better than the commercial stuff. Or maybe you can get the food that worked for your puppy online?

Dogs can, and will eat almost anything we do. My dog loves scrambled eggs also, and they're a great source of protein for them. Things to stay away from: garlic, onions, raisins, chocolate (of course). But my dog also loves her vanilla ice cream cone.
Oh and to answer your question, if you store the food in a dry place, in an airtight rubbermaid container, it will be fine until it's consumed. A 50 lb bag of food lasts us 2 months, and it's never gone bad.

well, it seems here in florida things go bad so quickly. i had what i thought was air tight, but after a few times opening it, it had little bugs of some kind in it. unless it was the store?

I've never had a problem feeding my dogs Purina. I have a 55 lb lab, and she gets 1 cup of food in the AM and 1 in the PM. I am also a firm believer in feeding things like raw meat (hamburger or steak trimmings when I trim) and vegetables. So she actually gets more than 2 cups of food a day.

that sounds like a good deal. in fact the puppy chow was purina. maybe i can find it online in smaller bags. maybe i can still feed her that and some meat scraps.?
